    XML Traffic Data

    in Minnesota here we have xml Traffic data updated every 30 seconds.. along with accidents reports, and all the sensors have lat/lng cords. They measure over all speed, density, and who knows what else..

    http://www.dot.state.mn.us/tmc/traff...ata/index.html

    I did some searching and found a few other places that do this..

    anyone have any ideas for an app that could interpit this data (the site has detailed specs on the data and everything, nice to see our tax dollars at work)

    I ws thinking a fash app that had a vecor map of major roads (4/6 lane) and then have animations of density and colors based on average speed (green = very fast, red = stop and go)

    basicly much like simcity :-)

    I have an idea about the app, and I can figure out how to pull the data.. I just don't know enough about xml and parsing it and all ..

    Why not just display the map that already does this on the site http://www.dot.state.mn.us/tmc/traff...efreshmap.html

    hmm never saw that map before..

    but wouldn't it be much sweeter to have animations?.. and or update it every 30sec? .. (I know you could refresh an image) ..

    I would prever vector animations over a nasty gif image.. and it static

    ya know i've been debating abotu making that type of progam .. but hell i found a much easier solution. If your gonna get those updates every 30 secs ur gonna need an internet connection. I downloaded the internet browser from meedio (VERY touch screen friendly) and just set my default site to www.traffic.com. from frodo i click ext apps, meedio, then my traffic and it brings the browser to that site. I also get trivia, movie times, sports, news and weather thru meedio... damn good software!

    looks like you're right.. you could even make a page that includes just thier own flash file.. from the web.

    I just like animations OK :-)

    somewhere amongst all my files I have the coordinates of every traffic cam out there. MNDOT is pretty cool when you email them asking for info, I just asked if they had a file that had all of the camera locations so I could make an app to display the upcoming cameras based on your location & direction. They were intrigued and sent me the data file. Although seen as I'm moving to Colorado in a week I probably won't ever finish (read that start) the project.

    <edit>
    Here is the file, I think that it is in UTM decimal? Can't remember and can't find the email that I got from them.
