anywho, long story short...personal opinion: its better to try and keep a sharp eye.
I dont think they have to show you the radar reading, but youre right about radar detectors. They are nothing but a false sense of security, especially when youre alone (or mostly) on the road. The only time ive ever used one, I got a ticket. I was doing 85-90mph, all alone on the interstate but I felt ok cause I had my friends valentine.
I saw the cop and hit my brakes before the damn thing ever went off. The cop actually commented on my quick reaction time and was curious about how fast I had been going, cause he only clocked me at 79.

I was once doing 70+ in a 45 mph zone, the trooper was cool and let me go because I'm a student and another ticket would take away my licence and that would screw up my life. Plus, I wasn't really going to go like that all the way, I just installed a new muffler the day before and was actually testing it on a straight road. Luckily my carputer was out of service that day or I could be in trouble.
But anyway, it also depends on how you talk to the cops.

Although I'm sure that doesn't help you now. All I can say is that you better hire a lawyer, those guys can get you out of the most impossible situations. You'll spend a lot of money, but in the long term you'll have your licence, your college, no criminal record, and your insurance will remain the same. But don't try to save money on that one, this is a serious offence that requires a smart-*** lawyer.

And by the way, cops are people too, you don't want to be rude to them because they ARE doing the right thing after all, I always had respect for cops, even when they gave me tickets, they might drop it (not show up) in court if you were cool.

If either of the other two then the evidence is unreliable therefore no charge.

Just coz he says the car has a limiter at 100 does not mean he is admiting he did 100, he is just saying there is no way he could be doing what the patrolman said.
Maybe he was going downhill? hehe

If you buy a radar detector, make sure you get one that has a "no ticket" guarantee, it basically says if you get a ticket while using our detector, we'll pay for the ticket and the detector...

That is why i still dont have one...LOL
I had a perfect quote to go here,

    Cobelli,

I am sorry that they caught ya going that fast. It is true that the radar gun DOES have to be sent in for calibration every so often (my brothers a cop in Nashville). If it has not been serviced in awhile it can become faulty and give errors in speed. I would ask that the office bring THAT gun and records to court that day and see. He has to log in what gun he used on that day at the station when he signs it out. I know I have been on to many "ride-alongs" with my brother when I go home on leave.. Try it it can't hurt to ask...

ok, im gonna put my 2 cents worth in here.
I OWN my own big rig, it'll do 114 mph, done IT , will do it again!
BUT! ther is a smart way to speed, and a dumb way, anything over 75 on the thruway is BEGGING for a massive ticket! YOU KNEW you were hauling ***, admit it!
If anyone thinks for one minute you have the skills to drive super fast, come ride in my truck, and you'll see that flying "four wheelers" area menace to the roads.
NOT ALL but a mass majority. Most drive 15-25 thou a year LOL, I do that in 4-6 weeks! Ill send an invite to ANYONE here to ride with me for a week and see that you CAN haul *** in a responsable manner. Everything has it time and place. LOL the NY Thruway wasnt one of em eh?
Sorry for bveing a smartass but I had to get my point across.

If you really do have a governer on the car, you've at least got the basis for a case. I'd have the car dyno'd at that speed and videotape it cutting out at 100 and bring that to court, along with a signed statement from the dyno guys.

If you can prove that the car can't possibly travel at the speed the cop gave you a ticket at, you've got a shot at having the ticket thrown out.

I once blew by a cop who was waiting to turn left at a stoplight on the highway. About 8 miles later I was pulled over and given a ticket by a cop claiming to be the one at the stoplight. I did the math and proved that IF I was going as fast as they said I was that the cop car would have had to be traveling at 135 mph to catch me where he did. The judge bought it (because it was true) and told the cops not to be radio relaying to each other to pick up speeders.

You're in luck because it's a State trooper. The judges tend to have less local bias in those cases.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

BTW - how can you get kicked out of college for speeding? That's like getting fired from your job because you got divorced. The two don't have anything to do with each other!

wreckless driving is more then a speading ticket. it will show up on background reports its along the lines of a mistamener. i recently switched jobs and my wreckless driving showed up on a normal background check. they asked me about it. i
