    mysterious door locks...

carputer on --> no wireless entry (door locks don't work, but only wireless part)... anyone else have this problem?

I've tried to analyze the situation as follows:

I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla. I figure there are two possible reasons for the above. The first, there is some mechanism in the car that prevents the wireless entry from working. This is triggered by some load being pulled from my carputer. The only connection my carputer has to the car's electrical system is the 12volt switched and unswitched lines that used to be going into my stock radio. I have an opus, so basically I send the switched 12v to it to turn it on and off. (I have SPDT switch to change b/w the switched 12v and unswitched 12v source, so I can have the carputer on without the keys in the ignition) this 12v line is also spliced off to my REM on my amp. (this also goes through a relay, coil being from a 12v line from the opus psu)

At first I thought maybe if there was a load on the 12v from my car, then my wireless entry would not work because of some weird mechanism. But then I tried testing it by trying to use my wireless entry right after I switched the 12v line off turning off my computer ('cause the opus has a 10s delay keeping the comp on a little bit). But it still wouldn't work until my computer was fully off!

The second senario I thought of was that when my computer is on, one of the wireless things I have with it (dlink 802.11g, gyration keyboard/mouse) is interferring with the signal, but I would think this is highly unlikely

This is driving me nuts, 'cause I can't lock the car wirelessly until the comp fully turns off... or when I leave the carputer on to grab something in a store, I can't use the wireless entry to lock and unlock my car... If anyone has actually read through this whole thing, PLEASE, any suggestions would be most appreciated!!

Sounds like you wiring somehwere. How do you have the system earthed?

I have the same problem in my 2004 Nissan Murano but the problem is intermittent. Also I found that sometimes if I hold the "lock" button down for a second or two, and only from a close distance, it will work, but again not always.
I am almost positive that the problem is due to RF interference. My carputer is fed via a direct line to the battery and another wire to the accessory line for the boot-up and shut-down signal. So there is no possibility of load being pulled by the carputer.

Scouse, all my stuff (auxillary battery which powers computer, Opus 150w, amp) is grounded to a bolt point in my trunk. The the 12v source from my car goes to the Opus which, in turn, is grounded to that same point.

Zebelkahn, hmm, so you think maybe it's the RF interference? I guess my gyration stuff does use RF frequencies... I wonder, do all keyless entry systems use RF? I guess I could try unplugging my gyration stuff, and seeing if that fixes the problem... the 802.11 stuff should be on different frequencies, right?

We have three things in common. 7" lilliput, the carputer, and 802.11 wireless (b in my case). Since my problem in intermittent, I can't really reproduce it at will so if I disconnect one component and it works I won't be sure if I have found the cause.

hmm, yea, my problem is constant. It's always, computer on=no wireless entry (but lock/unlock door buttons still work)... I'll have to try unplugging my gyration when I get home.

There was another thread around here about something similar. I think they determined that it's not 802.11 related because of the frequency range that the doorlock remote works on.

    Did you remove your headunit?

I know that VWs can have issues when the headunit is removed (because they have an OBDII (K Line) cable going to the radio for some reason (maybe for speed sensing volume control).
