    Why mac? why not windows

Alright, I know I'm going to sound stupid asking this but, here goes. I got interested in putting a carputer in my car a few months ago, and looking back realized that I decided (even though I'm a windows person) to look at mac hardware and software (frontends). Why? What advantage(s) do macs (and the macmini, with the release of other similar computers) have over windows (or linux) systems? Obviously I'm a noob, so please go easy on me.

There's no real reason why a MAC is better than a PC. PCs definately have more software.

I mean once a frontend (like CCar) has caught up to some degree to windows frontends and once navigator is available on Macs.

My opinion is if you can get done what you want on either platform, then it just comes down to which you're more comfortable with. For me, the LAST thing I ever want to have to deal with is my car getting a virus. So, at present, that makes a mac running OS X a better choice.

So, I'd say it's more a question of personal preference than one of which is better.
    Thanks,

    Joe

macs wake from sleep in less than five seconds. They are very stable, and the mini is powerful yet has a low current draw.

It's true. There's no suitable front end or GPS software.

If you're a Mac fan, you're doing it for the experiment. If you want a Car PC up and running without fuss, go PC.

Personally I'm not interested in using a front end. The Dock is good enough for me. As for GPS, needs improvement, but so far Route 66 has worked fine for me.

As other people have mentioned, the Mac is more stable, and wakes very fast and just works.

[edit]: member's name is kiltjim. He's got a 900mhz p3. Ok... so PCs win... yet again
