Question IS THERE ANOTHER WAY???? (please help)

I just went through the FAQ Emporium yesterday and decided to try the "Boot directly into your Front End" mod... Now I have to admit... all the steps in that write-up are clear and concise... very good stuff!
However, once you do this mod, you end up losing access to your "desktop" (since explorer.exe is no more)... I can understand that it's awesome once you're completely satisfied with everything in your system (if that ever happens)...
But how about if you still need to access a few folders from time to time? I realized the only way to get your desktop back (unless I'm not aware of anything else), you have to access the Registry again (via Control/Alt/Del/Task Manager/File/New Task (Run...)) and replace the Shell with explorer.exe again and then reboot!
What I'd like to know is... IS THERE ANOTHER WAY... to both keep the front end running on startup, yet, still be able to access your desktop once you close it or minimize it????

    Thanks for the help!!

if you are using an app with external app support like rr then you can add explorer.exe as an app and launch it from your front end.

I think this is in the FAQ's

just invoke Task manager, select Applications tab and after pressing New task button execute "explorer.exe". If you do so, you avoid registry modifications and one reboot.

depending on the front end you're using, you can add Explorer as an app and launch it from within your frontend.

This is one of the reason I don't like the idea of booting directly to front end and eleminate explorer.
Why not just boot up as normal and put the front end in the startup folder to have it run automatically. If startup folder is not an option, but it in the RUN portion in the registry (can remember exact path).
Some may argue about resource, no need, or whatever, but I found myself always need to get back to the desktop.

But well if you still like booting direct to FE, just add explorer in the App Launch part of the FE.

its faster to bee withount explorer, so thats why people do it, if you want to get to get around windows to change something, ctrl alt del > task manager > new task > explorer.
when you reboot or end the explorer process it will back to just front end.

If you use the Alt-Tab program I have in my sig. then you can assign explorer.exe to one of the clicks if you want.

Oh wow... so many quick answers to my (stupid) question... I had failed to mention that I AM running RR as a front end. I wasn't aware that explorer.exe was one of the apps you can add to it... I'll give that a shot and see how I like it first. Then I'll give some of the other suggestions a try too. Thanks guys!!

    Talking well... yea... APPS.... Explorer.

    impatient me...
I just snuck away from my desk and ran to my car in the lot to go try things... and right as I accessed the apps on my RR skin, THERE is was... "Explorer"... (I felt like kickin' myself in the @$$)... I didn't even have to add it. It's not the best way to have access to the desktop, but it does the job and I think I could run things like that for now...
I think for the sake of trying things, I'll also try to add RR in the startup folder and test how I like it this way too....

    Thanks again guys!

How much time does it save booting straight to RR or the like?
