So let's just say everything thing that can go wrong, HAS gone wrong.
I recieved my Blaupunkt Houston CD deck today. I was so excited. I bought the deck from ebay for $99. It's about $250 new, it's last years model. I also ordered, from www.crutchfield.com a "auxiliary in adapter" for Blaupunt units with CD-Changer control.
I hook up the deck and it works great. Nice clean sound, decent highs and lows. I go to hook up the aux in adapter and...great! Perfect fit! Then I press the CD button to change to "changer mode" - NOTHIN!The damn cd changer aux in adapter POS doesn't work!!!!I'm so feed up with this junk. Grrrr. I guess they are not comptable. I hope they take it all back.

So, anyway, on to my question. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good aftermaket cd deck with aux in? I want something that produces clean sound. Someone with a reputiable name. It also should be black, not too toy-looking. I read something on here earlier in the week about a JVC deck? I'm not too found of JVC sound on their car decks, but if anyone has heard the deck, I'd like some input.
Ohhh, and one more thing, I don't want to spend more than I did for the Blaupunkt.![]()
All suggesstions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!![]()

I too just got a Houston and ordered an Aux-in directly from Blaupunkt. I am having everything installed next week.
How exactly did it not work? Did the head unit not switch to changer at all or was there just no sound?
Do you know the part number of your Aux-In? There are a couple that Blaupunkt makes, maybe they sent the wrong one?
Well, of coruse it all depends on how much you want to spend. I have a Kenwood exceleon 915. It is an excellent head with motorized faceplate (COOL!) and a nice display. But really, the sound is fantastic -- part of this is because it has 4.5volt outs to the amp. (Higher voltage = less loss = better signal = FUNK!)Originally posted by Carlos C:

If you don't have a dedicated amp, get the 815, basically the same, except it has built in preamps. (The 915 does not, which also makes it cleaner.) Only problem is the price. probably around $300 (got mine at smilephotovideo.com, best price I could find, incl ebay, etc..)
I did a bunch of research 8 months ago but I have no idea what is good out there now. So, you can disregard what I said except that I recommend Kenwood!

Well it didn't work because the Houston unfortunaly does not support aux-in adapters. Whether the adapter is ordered form Bluapunkt or Crutchfield, it's still the same one. Comes in a Blaupunkt box.I too just got a Houston and ordered an Aux-in directly from Blaupunkt. I am having everything installed next week.

Anyway, the reason I found out it doesn't work is because I emailed Blaupunkt (direct)
and here is what they sent me
The Houston DM189 does not have Auxiliary capability. The only stereo in
that line that has Aux. inputs is the Key Largo. Thanks...

message: Hi. I bought a Houston DM189 and wanted to know if I can use a
"auxiliary in" adapter to hook up a mp3player. I bought the Aux-In adapter
but it does not seem to work. Is it a possible that the aux-in adapter is
broke or does this cd-reciever not a compatible model? Thanks.

I've seen an audiovox cd player at circuit city for $99 that had a aux in on the face plate.

I'm getting the Blaupunkt Key Largo. Thanks for all your suggestions.![]()
Well, I just wasted some time and cash on this Houston. How much did you get the Key Largo for?
I recently got a JVC KD-SH77 (new) from ubid for $200 and it has 2 aux inputs on it. One on the front through a 1/8" jack and on the back through RCA's which I am using. The sound is really good...motorized face, detatchable face, 4v preout front/rear/sub. I was looking into blaupunkt h.u.'s. This thing retails for $350 at chrutchfield...to me it's WAY inflated but it's decent h.u. it shouldn't be hard to get it on ubid for $200.

The Key Largo retails for around $350. I got it from a ebay store "Ike's electronics" That's where I got the Houston. I did a trade and paid a difference of $40. So the Key Largo is $139 It's a few steps up from the Houston. My power, remote, features, and aux-in![]()
