    Something better than WinAmp??

I know a lot of people use winamp, I do as well. I'm just wondering if there is anything else out there that reproduces the music as accurately (or more so)...

and something that's touch screen friendly and doesn't come with any frilly extras to bog it down...

Is it a better frontend you seek, or is it a better codec?
Winamp plays cd's. I'll bet that Winamp would play vinyl if given the proper plugin and parallel port circuit to your turntable!

There are winamp skins meant for touch screen use... as well as there are front ends based on winamp (MC, RR etc). I've played with all kinds of audio players and winamp is by far my preferred player.. but opinions do vary..

while i always use Winamp religiously, i tend to prefer frontends that do NOT rely heavily on external programs to run. the more integrated the frontend, the less bulk, less resources, and less bugs when trying to integrate software that you dont have control over.

this is probably one reason im a big fan of CF.

I like the idea of having everything built in... but when it comes down to it, unless you make the code to load/decode/output audio straight out of the mp3 files, you'll be using external controls/files/applications one way or another. It definetely is one thing less you'll have to setup/configure, but having it separate also means you'll likely be able to make/use more generic plugins/applications that don't necessarily control the front end (i.e. controlling winamp directly). I'm not couting advantages and disadvantages, this is purely a matter of choice. There are countless applications that integrate with winamp in one way or another, so anything that uses winamp, indirectly integrates with those applications. In the other hand, nothing prevents the front end to provide an interface to perform the same exact thing. In fact, it should even be possible to "similate" winamp as to provide the same integration for those applications.
