My setup and wiring.. please tell me your thoughts and improvements..

Ok people.. ive done all my reading.. my eyes are sore.. ive searched.. ive done evrything i could to get to this stage.. just need a few tips on were i should put fuses.. or anything if i need too and what size.. and if my system works through your eyes... only thing im kinda not sure about is powering my LCD.. any pointers for my system is WELL appreciated, like cable sizes etc.. do u think its necessary to use a 150w power? i only plan on adding most likely a GPS and a sound card that will forward to my amps.. to this system and i havent shown my 2 amps speakers and subs because i think i can sort that out myself..

    Thanks

looks good. Just power the LCD from a 12v connector on the PSU
Is this where the witty comment goes?

so just cut into the 12v line running from my PSU to mainboard.. and run it to my screen?

instead of running the screen power from my mainboard..

I would just hack into a molex connector from the PSU. Just use the yellow and (1) black line from a molex.

Looks like a sweet setup....wondering if you could save money on the MoBo though since it looks like you're not doing a whole lot with the system.

As far as wiring...there's a lot of info on here, but this thread should help a good deal:

Well I am still reluctatnt on putting in 7,200rpm HDDs. Think about getting a 5,400rpm one. Works for me. Just a security issue since 7,200rpm ones run hotter and fail faster on shock
Lilliput 7" TS TFT, ASRock K7VM2, Duron 1,3 GHz, 512 MB DDR RAM, 30 GB Seagate HDD @ 5.400 rpm, WLAN w/ 500mW booster, Toshiba Slimline DVD-ROM Drive, D-Link USB Radio

You also might consider a slim CD/DVD rom. Like the laptop harddrives, I believe in addition to being smaller, they may use less energy, but their also designed for a more mobile application and so have greater movement tolerances.

I'm never one to argue against more power, but the more you use, the more peripherals you add, the hotter it will run, and the thinner your wallet gets. The M10000 initially seems like it would be slow especially when compared to the higher epia series or pentium chips, but you won't really be using the computer to "multitask" either (well maybe you will) but at the most you'd probably surf the internet while playing mp3s so all that power (and RAM, you can probably get by with 256) may not be necessary. Also, XP can be dumbed down (N-lite) so you can conserve some system resources that run in the background

I haven't built mine yet, still planning like yourself. I was going to stick with the M10000, 256 RAM, slim slot CDRW/DVD-ROM and a 40 GB laptop HD. Once I start adding on the TV/FM tuner card, the VGA display, GPS, cables, USB stuff, I'm hitting over $1000 USD ($1,334.78 AUD).

Which reminds me...sounds like you plan on expanding in the future, can I recommend planning a head and running a powered USB hub to the front of the car? This can also be powered off the 5V rail from the PSU and increase your ability to connect the touch screen, dashboard CD/DVD, flash/key drive, OBD USB connector (instead of serial), etc. Also consider USB Wireless for transferring all the media to that HD from your house to the car.

You can get both USB Sound or Tuner cards; if you only have one slot, its whichever is more important. You can also get PCI riser cards which can expand the number of PCI slots you have (depending on your space constraints). However, there are issues (that I'm not completely sure about) about how the information gets to the MB from these. They can be either active or passive depending on whether the chip or the MB assigns IRQs to the PCI slots. That's about as in depth as I understand/can explain it.

Just my more than 2 cents....
