    battery/alternator getting weak?

The past two days my car has been acting strange. When I start my car, with the air on full blast, it seems to almost stall cranking, and my computer will go off after a few minutes and the inverter gives me a low battery warning.

If I turn my lights on you can tell my AC stops blowing as hard and my lights kinda dim.

IS there a way to just recharge the battery, or am I do a battery/alternator?

Aight well first it sounds like it may be your battery. I would go take it to like autozone and have them test it. If it shows out to be ok then start your car, get a multimeter (if you have one) and measure the volts accross the battery post. If its above/about 14volts your alternator should be ok, unless its at like greater then 16volts.Turn car off and check the alternator belt and make sure u cant pull it off with ur hand, just make sure it seems pretty tight. And if you get another battery get the one that has the max RC/AH time and most CCA you can get to fit in your car. Most RC/AH time is probably most important since u are carputing.

    Thank you!

I notice that I have been doing alot of "leaving the car on while I run into the store, pump gas, etc" things. Also, I have to turn it off and on a few times sometimes because the heat makes my inverter go crazy. It's prob my battery, I will have it checked tho.

I wonder if I should switch to a lower load drawing system?

Right now I am running a p3 1.266, full atx board, soundblaster live pci, ati rage 128 agp card, 512 mb pc133, 1 20 gig hd, 1 60 gig hd, cdrom, fan for hd's, also the monitor is running off the psu, along with the touchscreen and a usb linksys wifi adapter

Ive got a p3 733mhz and the mobo that is with it has onboard audio and video (I think probably S3 graphics). I could also go down to 1 hd, instead of 2, lost the extra fan.

That load is not that much. I have a draw on my battery and alternator going on over 125 amps. And I have no problems yet. I think if you replace or test your battery you will see a noticeable improvement.

Yeah man, my carputer draws only a bit compared to the rest of my system. Its not that much, its probably your batt. If you let them drain all the way once or twice you really mess them up and they are not good anymore(but might still start your car). Deep cycling is the way to go, even tho if u only have 1 batt you still need to jump it. But at least when your batt dies you are not hurting it as much

Lead/acid batteries get hurt by running flat. Crystals form, and if left for more than a few hours, don't dissolve fully when recharged. This increases internal resistance, and also curiously provides a path for the battery to slowly discharge internally. They are different beasts to Nicads Li Ion etc
