Cool to see updates still being posted here. I'm actually in the early stages of an LT1 swap right now -- finally no more v6!! v6 is yanked and sold, LT1 is in the garage waiting a cc503 and LPP headers.

I just thought I would share my latest upgrade. I have previously been using the aux port provided by my GM9-AUX to link my laptop to my stock monsoon equipment. I just installed an AMP-100 in place of it and I LOVE it. It's only 2 channel (they're developing a 4 channel). Never again will I have to take the touchscreen off and reach in behind to touch the aux/cd button again .

I never thought the monsoon system was that bad so just swapping the stock head unit for this small amplifier fit my needs perfectly. Oh, using the fusion brain, I'm one afternoons work from having my steering wheel controls functional as well.

I forgot to get the links posted, so here are a few.

Here's the upper shock mount mod I mentioned earlier:

If your interested in the super low Trans Am, I have a long thread here were I tossed around a huge number of ideas. I think I have the basic sorted out near the more recent posts.
    http://ls1tech.com/forums/paint-body...kers-only.html

In order to really get it low I'm going to move the engine to the back. Here's the mid-engine thread. I'm going to pick up a junk block, transmission case and some other parts in order to mock it up. I think I have it worked out.
    http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/advanc...ed-advice.html

Here's the thread on converting the unit body construction over to a space frame.
    http://ls1tech.com/forums/tools-fabr...lid-frame.html

A few other big things will be the choptop and converting the front over to shorter spindles. I think the aluminum C4 spindles are going to be the best choice, but I'm still working on it. This will let me cut away the factory shock towers. I've already got my donor car and have started cutting it up.

Maybe you guys can give me some Stereo advice. So I plan to mount a subwoofer enclosure up front. Getting the bass into the car is a bit of a problem. The firewall on both sides are being used, so my best idea is to replace the sheetmetal around the transmission with mesh. It's basically 3 sided. I may get some rattling if I have the bass comming through the top piece, so maybe just vent it on the left and right side. Here's a pic to show what I mean.

It's actually a pretty good bit of vent area. I don't think it would restrict 2 12's, but I don't know about 3 of them. The sub box will be fiberglass and fit where the engine used to be.

Do you guys see any other way to vent the bass into the car? I don't.

Sorry if this might have been covered (it was hard skimming over 43 pages, mostly about subs), but I am thinking of putting in a laptop this summer.

Anyways I was thinking of a 8.4" widescreen (with ac controls in place). It seems it would fit. Its "screen dimensions with bezel removed" has a height of 120mm (4.7") but it also is advertised to have a "viewable screen area" of 108mm (4.25").

If im not mistaken, a double din is 4.1ish" so this should fit well, correct? I want something that looks stock like InfiniteReality's:

I do not think so - I have a 7" and planning same figure it will still be tight with hvac controls left in place........

as I recall the stock hu is really 1.5 dinish
If anyone gives me a rev - I give them the Bird

^ yes stock is 1.5, which actually is much wider than din/double. but many people have put in double like this.

an 8.4" should be the same height, and about stock radio width. im pretty positive this will fit, but am a little skeptic from the fact that so many people have put in 7"s and none 8.4". If it does fit though, should be easier to mount since you wont have to fill in the sides more than a quarter inch or so.

Yeah, I think that's going to be tough. Back when the first of us did these the only widescreen was a 7" so I think that's why we opted for the 7 wide or the 8+ 4:3 and move the HVAC. The 7" is 106mm high and I moved the HVAC down about 3mm or so to get it in, so 120mm is going to be a challenge. Pull the bezel and start measuring. The screen itself is 10-12mm deep, so one option would be to extend the bezel out a bit so it lays over the HVAC controls some, or over the top edge or both.

^ alright thanks. yeah i was thinking id mount it back a bit. should help with sunlight and then it could be behind (isnt the front of the hvac thin at top?). i think if i made the middle separator of the hvac and radio really thin and lowered like in that double din it would still look good. I mean the screen itself is 108mm apparently and i wouldnt need the buttons to be visible.

Or could you lower the hvac like 5 or 10mm? Make the bottom of the bezel thinner too? I assume doing this wouldnt be too difficult or make the manual controls not work but I have no experience.

EDIT: The "viewable screen area" is the actually screen dimensions, correct? So I would only need to mount 108mm with the rest behind. When you say the 7" was 106, you mean part of it not being the screen and behind the bezel, correct?
