It depends on if you ever want to revert back to stock. I can see getting the controls down another 5mm or so by cutting some of the vinyl and plastic behind it. It's a little sloppy anyway. Just don't go past the edge of the bezel so it's still covered up. Same with the top of the opening. The controls would still work fine. I don't think it's enough though. Like I said, mine's 106mm and it's sitting on the top of the HVAC and the knobs are alost scraping the bottom of the bezel. It's the normal thickness there though. The HVAC panel is pretty thin, but it has light sockets along the top and other things so I don't think there's room to drop the LCD behind it.

hmmm another thought is what if i mounted it upside down? should give more room for install and i know on older xp computers you could press a button combo to reverse the screen. I wonder if my vista laptop can do that and even stay that way after hibernation....

Maybe I should keep it simple with the 7 haha. But the 8 isnt much more and would be much nicer.

Also, I had a question about our steering wheel controls. I know they work by voltage and the swix works but i wont have the money for that and i have a spare joypad so i was wondering if you can wire the buttons to the joypad directly? Or are they on some kind of circuit board? I assumed they are wired to a module under the wheel that sends the voltage to the radio.

Mounting upside down can be bad. The viewing angle is the worst on the bottom with most LCDs, but it's not noticable until it gets to maybe 45 degrees. Some people do it anyway though.

I did the steering wheel controls with a joypad at first. There are a couple threads about it here. It can be jumpy but it's doable. There's a 2 wire cable under the wheel. I think it's white (definitely not airbag yellow LOL). One wire has 12V and I clipped it to just use 5V from the joypad. You need a couple resistors to make it work.
