Cant seem to register my cd key for xp!!!

After builing my pc i forgot to enter the cdkey with in the 30 day perio.

Got distracted with other things.

Now i cant enter the cd key. It asks me if i want to enter it Yes/ No . But then does nothing.

Please help!!!

Uhm, if it's windows XP you can't install without a CD-Key

or are you talking about a activation code?

you can try booting to safe mode with command prompt, and then run explorer.exe from the command prompt to get one last chance. Most of the time when that happens, i boot to the command prompt and SYSPREP the machine, and that gives me another 30 days

Just note you can only sysprep it 6 times i think. then you are fubar

Right, then. I'm as thick as 2 very short very thick planks when it comes to things like this.

I can reach the screen that shows my user name next to a box.

And its got a (click here to switch of pc) button in the bottom.

It caome up with a box asking "Do you want to activete this now" "yes" "no"

I click "yes" and nothing happens.

How do i do that sysprep thing?

Sounds like you have a bigger issue, it should be giving you a activation window, did you do anything funky to the install like n-lite?

Right then!

Ive just disconected the hard drive. booted up again waited for it to do a little search and in the process of re instaling windows. should let me begin the 30 day thing again? Should'nt it?

google has lots of info on WPA and ways around your particular problem...

There are also Key testing/generating programs you can DL. Beware though, nearly all will have some kind of Trojan bundled with them or as ActiveX components on the pages you DL them from...
