Touchscreen is easier. That's why so many people use it. Plus, the IR route... if you're on a long trip and batteries die, you're pretty much screwed unless A. you brought a wired remote of some kind, or B. you find a store that sells batteries and just deal with it in the meantime.
And no, I don't have to take my eyes off the road to skip to the next track or go back to the previous track with my touchscreen. The buttons are always in the same place unless my navigation is up.
The best resurrected frontend I've ever used, period.
