Do you guys know how to get your carputer covered? How about other valuable items that you may be carrying? Is there some sort of internal property coverage you can get?

Check Out My Install!!!
My Insurance agent told me anything that was "installed" would be covered.
For example they would cover a pc bolted in the trunk, but not a laptop sitting on the seat. Definitely ask an agent to find out.
Ask your agent about personal property insurance. For a small fee they will cover anything and everything you own thats not bolted down. I got it a long time ago to cover my class ring since I had to take it off once or twice daily when I was flying. They even cover lost items as opposed to only stolen or vandalized coverage for cars.
HARDWARE: Fujitsu Stylistic ST5111w/WiFi and dock, internal Hitachi 500G HD, external 1TB HD, Sierra Wireless Aircard 550, DVD-RW, BoomzBox HD radio, XM Commander, Delorme GPS, Saitek X-52 Pro joystick, BluSoleil Bluetooth, TPMS, FB, Elm327
Yeah I vaguely remember hearing this one before. That stock speakers and head unit were covered since they "are part of the car".Originally Posted by walky_talky20
Kinda sad my laptop is worth more than my car.
i work for an insurance co and although it is defined in a standard policy (with no ammendments) that any permanantly installed equiptment is covered. make sure you have receipts or pictures to help in the claim process it helpsOriginally Posted by noodles
also just a quick fyi
Example: Car stolen with laptop on seat purse in trunk and stereo in dash
Covered: Stereo only
Example 2: Car stolen with cash in the glovebox, an expensive coat locked in the trunk that was not yours but you were holding for a girlfriend. Misc auto parts going to be installed on the back seat. An aftermarket cup holder drilled to the floor of the car
Covered: Cup holder only
each policy may be ammended not to cover such a loss (permanantly installed equipt) however in most cases it will be covered.

If it's standard policy, why would you amend it so you don't get permanantly installed equip. covered?Originally Posted by lostreception
not you the insurance company may ammend it as part of thier termsOriginally Posted by noodles
for example they might be able to say it covered as long as they are notified but this is hardly the case
they just wanna know if u have the stuff to charge u more for comprehensive (theft) coverage

Ah ok. I'm really considering that personal property coverage.
...y'know... just in case my old carputer gets stolen and I have to replace it with new stuff.
I asked my insurance company about it.
me - "What if I was to theoretically put an expensive stereo in my car?"
them - "How expensive?"
me - "About $1000"
them - "Aftermarket stereo up to $1000 is automatically covered, you just have to notify us you have it."
me - "done and done"
