Need Help Desperately And Quickly, Bootup Problem

i have the sp13k motherboard, and an OPUS 120w PSU. i just hooked it up to my car battery leads and it begins to boot up, and asks me if i want to boot up in safe mode, regular mode, etc. if i choose any i hear a clicking and it restarts, which seems almost like a power failure. however, there is no power failure.

it worked fine when i used a soft power switch and used an old atx power supply to power the opus. however, that switch does nothing anymore. i dont need to connect the power switch cable from the opus to the mobo to boot up either. (is this normal?) even with it connected i still have this problem.

i have my startup voltage set at 12v, and shutdown at 1v. i need to get this working asap as it is for a school project and i NEED to pass. i am searching the forums now to look for any solutions, so please do not reply with . thanks

..also, if i do not choose anything, and the 30 seconds of choosing time runs out, the same problems occurs.

Kinda sounds like a hard drive failure to me.

Can you localize the "clicking" sound? If it is coming from the hard drive (which is my guess) it is bad.

See if you can get it to boot using a normal ATX PS?

as for the clicking sound...i believe it is coming from the mobo, i have heard this noise before when i would power my mobo but it wouldnt boot(before i originally created an ATX ps.)

Considering there's no moving parts on the motherboard, it's kinda hard for a motherboard to make a clicking sound...
Now, a fan could make a clicking sound, perhaps.

But based on what your experiencing, I'm gonna go witht he consensus and say it's a hard drive failure.

How did you create an ATX PS?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

the drive doesn't have to be bad.. it sounds like his power (the only thing changed w/in the scenario) may be misconfigured or heading south.

OTOH: if it is the HD.. put a finger on it as you boot (if possible.. the clicking should might translate as thumps you can feel)
and FTR: the drive operates under different drivers from bios to and through various steps of OS load.. so yeah it will act and react diffrently to various conditions. --i'm still voting power issue.

Go to your local computer store and buy a cheap external USB enclosure for you HD (2.5" or 3.5"?) and see if you can at least get the drive to work. Will tell you real quick if it's the HD or not.
