Thread: Need to know what is this

Well saying that you were fitting an alarm and doing something with wiers, then I would say that was say a imobiliser and that would be why the car isnt starting, I could be well wrong but its hard to tell where in the car that picture is also what make is the car?

EDIT: would I be right in saysing taht is passinger side if you are USA then under the center console section?

I haven't connect a single wire I was just taking the plastic trim out the way so I can start connecting everything tomorrow.

The ECM is bihind the center console, this is a 2002 nissan Xterra SE/SC.

I being doing some serching and some people say that that screw is to enter selt test.

the thing is that I turn it all the way counter clockwise (thinking that this was holding the platic cover) so I turn it back and norhing... the car doesn't start.

Any help will be highly apreciate.

maybe disconnect you battery and then hook it up again to reset the ECM

Did that already.

So I finally found what that screw does: it just holds the cable harness that goes to the ECU OR ecm OR PCM (whatever we want to call it )

So what is going on? why the car doesn't start? what will be the best way to diacnostic a fried ECU? (everything else works, lights keyless entry) maybe the starter kill when on and it that is why I can start the truck?

probably killed the pcm.
ground urself, disconnect the batt, take screw out and unplug the wiring harness. plug the wiring harness back on, try without the screw, then try with screw.
could try "giggling" each wire as well.


does the car crank and just not start??
does the check engine light come on and stay on???

you would need a wirign diagram to help to the answer to those.
someone on here should have access to on demand or all data.
but that could tell u alot. like if the pcm grounds the cel and urs is staying on could be pcm, if ur pcm doesnt control cranking then ur pcm could be messed up if its cranks, but the injectors dont fire. All depneds on how the pcm is controling everything.

anyways best bet is to check for a loose wire.
else get a scanner from like autozone and c if it can commaicate with the pcm.
other then that, cant help yea.

but it is real possible you killed the pcm.

but if u did kill this one then i hope from then on u will always ground urself and disconnect the batt before doing anything at all to a car.
cuz i know i havent killed a pcm yet and even tho i know better, i still do a whole lot with my batt still connected.

So I finally discover the problem: the ECU cable harness wasn't plug all the way.

The car start fine now. THANKS GOD!!!

I just have the "check service soon" on now but that is either do the key, brake pedal trick or take it to the mecanic and pay $85

just so you know that screw resets the ECM. I think you turn it back til it stops then turn it twice around to do factory reset

Nope that is in older models.

And now that we are here do you now if a OBDII scan light the usb that some of you have, will reset the "check engine soon" light?

Edit: nevermind, I got the answer and the I turn the light off with one of those scan tools form auto zone.
