CarPC's are not perfect. Most people use the HU for thier FM reception as a backup to the computer. Also as way of input to get the sound to thier speakers.

I haven't been able to figure out why some people have both, a carputer, and also a stock/alpine/jvc etc. headunits...
is it so that u can use either/fm radio and such?
It's not possible to control the frontend's previous/next/stop/play type of functions thru the HU right? u'd still have to use teh lcd rite...
thanks for any answers.. (i did search..but..)

Still use HU for FM radio and the occasional CD. Also don't have an amp for front/rear speakers so I use the HU to drive those....

You can use your HU to control PC just fine. Not all HU support that, but most of them.Originally Posted by viruscauser

well for me.. i went cd player--->speakers--->sub--->carputer why spend more money that we dont have for an amp and fm modulator?
thanks for the replies people! got it now!
had to ask this as my current system is totally busted! fried or sometthing..who knows.. i'd rather deal with troubleshooting a pc! lol..
I use a HU + carputer for multiple reasons with my setup.
1. PC radio tuners stink compaired to a good headunit's.
2. no Sirius satilite interface with carputer (at least not when I made mine, haven't kept up with if you can now or not)
3. computer CD drives are anoying and spin up to really high RPM's often and are noisy, HU doesn't do that.
4. cost, it's cheaper to get a nice headunit than to get a seperate equalizer, crossover network with high/low pass filters and amp.
5. if computer screws up I still can use the HU to listen to music.
