Still, you might want to go one better than a cousin cop for interpreting legal standing. Not knocking your cousin, my brother's a cop, I often ask him questions on mods, but he's not a lawyer. There might be less well know laws that could snarl you. Also, you could still get sued if someone got hurt.

The other thing is, unless your an engineer, and something goes wrong, you again, are probably *****ed. Like say you get shocked while driving and cause an accident.

The last thing to think about is making sure you dont' fry your car. My car for instance has the door handles connected to an ECU. With that voltage, it arcs. You put this on your inner door switches, you might end up frying your electrical system.

One more thing. Make sure to install a camera/DVR with the alarm so you can have it on tape if it does work. That would be great
i hear you on the lawyer part. that was actually my next step and i have an appointment to see a second lawyer on friday. will let you know what i find. and that dvr idea is great !!! cheers for that

kids play and touch everything. at some point, a child will touch your door handle. can you guarantee that they won't get shocked?

how about CS gas spray in the cabin upon entry, followed by laughing gas, followed by an automatic call to an asylum?

Way too funny. Talk to Q, maybe he can rig up the shock handles and sledgehammer proof windows from the beemer in Goldeneye. While your at it, ask them to hook you up with rockets so that you can shoot their car as they are running away.

or you could have an automatic tape in the car go on when they enter the car, and it would be a comedy tape. That way, they'd be laughing their heads off when you come back.

The thing with stun guns is that ya you are getting hit with 50,000 volts but some people can still function to a degree that way. The better ones are like the 900,000 volt one you mentioned.
Also think about it if they are going to use the outside door handle to open the car door then you most of left the car unlocked. Other wise they will have broken the window reached inside to unlock the door and probably opened the door useing the inner door handle. (Seen that done many times in Arizona where the outside of the car can burn easily during the summer).

The trunk monkey video is funny as hell. Seriously tho, I think some electrodes strategically placed inside the vehicle would not be such a bad idea. You would at least have b&e to aid in the defense of any litigation.

To spend the time and money on such a project you better have some sick **** in the car that you want to protect.

I would just worry about it going off while riding down the road or something... and don't underestimate the power of red tape in america.. guy gets cut on glass he broke while smashing your window... steals your radio... gets caught by blood trail.. sues you and wins... (gets to keep radio too cause they all forgot about it except you) good luck with shocking the **** out of him.

Door handles are one thing but putting them in the car sounds iffy. I just think that for the time and money spent building them into your door handles you might as well just up the deductable on your insurance... I mean, my insurance covers everything in my car with a $250 deductable so if they steal the screen... I buy a new one... if they steal the screen, the computer and other things I get new ones and loose 250 bucks... no big deal... a flat tire sucks more.

Not to mention... not that I have any intentions or desires to steal anything... but if I was trying to accomplish something and got the **** shocked out of me I wouldn't run away like a rat... I would stop evaluate then kick the living **** out of whatever it was that just hit me... if nothing else just for the hell of it. Maybe take out my leatherman and cut the door handle off... smash the window place it in the drivers seat then promptly steal everything in the car instead of just the cd's on the front seat I wanted. Oh, and I would flatten your tires too... cause thats just fun.

Your friend doesn't know the law. Its illegal to do this in all 50 states.
