ok i am running frodoplayer right now and liking it. i know how to change out my explorer shell with frodoplayer.exe and that works fine. what i would like to be able to do is to go to the applications part of FP and run a command that will boot up windows XP behind frodoplayer. i know i could just put FP in the startup, but i dont need windows xp running every single time, unless i want it to be. i tried puting a command in for explorer.exe, but it only opens up a windows explorer window, and i would like to have a nice little desktop with a taskbar and the whole nine yards. is this possible, and if so, whats the command?
Microsoft Virtual PC is about the only way to do something like that, and with that, you have to install another full instance of XP in order to do what you want.
A shell is just a graphical interface to the XP command interpreter. In other words, you are running and booted up into XP, even though your GUI has been changed.
I'm sort of surprised that FP is fully functional running while explorer is running as the shell, unless it has very limited shell commands.
Another alternative that may suit your needs is to write yourself a couple registry scripts to change your shell entry. One to change the shell to explorer and one to change to FP. After you double-click and enter one of the scripts into the registry, all you have to do is Log out and back in and you are in the other shell. Make sure you don't make any typo's in the scripts/paths cause I'm not sure how you would recover from that, safe mode maybe, not sure. Registry backup/restore maybe...
