    Your install's best/most unique feature

What's the most interesting/non-standard part of your install?

For hardware, mine is probably the 802.11b adapter (*yawn*).

For software, it's definitely the custom winamp controller I wrote which chooses the playlist based on driving style as determined from GPS info.

For hardware it's probably the 2.3"x2.7" custom dc2dc power supply, or the extensive mods I made to the head unit for getting the sound in, and the switch on control out.

For software it's gonna be the custom software I wrote, including dos sound drivers for the es1869 sound chip, fast precompiled playlist loading for a fast boot, the DOS port of mpg123 for playing and the way it caches up to two songs in memory at once so that it doesn't need to stream off disc, avoiding the possibility of skipping and reducing the possibility of head crashes (I could shut down the hard drive between songs if necessary). The menu system is just boring.

Overall, it's probably the size of my player (12"x6"x2" including psu).

For hardware it would have to be the Discolitez rig I made (round thing with lights), it moves along with the music.....

And the drilled logo I made...

And I also made a 4 button control for winamp that connects to the serial port.

Not much special about my software, other than the Winamp AVS visualizations I made. You can find the ones I made for the car here.

I've got a few different lists set up, but there's a lot of overlap. I don't remember the exact rules I specified, but it's something like this:

Under 25mph: play slow stuff like Low, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Classical

25-50, with high degree of direction changes = cruising: play stuff like Velvet Chain, swing stuff, Ani DiFranco, Refreshments, Soul Coughing

Above 50 = highway: play fast/angry stuff like Tool, NIN, Stabbing Westward, Alice in Chains.

If the driving style isn't specified by any particular rule, it just loads up the "all" playlist.

I think I also put in a few easter eggs selections that haven't popped up yet: driving at 5am = play "Screenwriter's blues" from Soul Coughing (Lyrics: "It's 5am, and your driving ... to Los Angeles")

I had to do the playlist composition myself, so I was lazy and just did it by group rather than on individual songs. I eventually want to find or write a bit of software to analyze a library of mp3s for beats per minute and create playlists based on that.

Are you going to release any of it as maybe freeware?
I would be interested in playing around with some of it.

Actually, I did have it released as freeware, but no one seemed particularly interested in it when I first mentioned it here on the forums.

    Take a look at

The links to the actual zipfiles are dead at the moment, but I'll put them back up when I get home tonight. (probably 6-7pm central).

Thanx, I will be checking out your site then. I must have missed the info when you posted it before. I stayed away from the boards for about a year or more untill I got my system up. Seeing all the great systems on here and not having one gets kind of depressing.
