Question Most popular way to get internet on carputers?

I was wondering what everyone does to get internet on their carputers.
Do most people plug in their cell phone to get internet?
Or do most people have a wireless nick and drive around and know the hot spots to download really quick? How well does that work anyways?

Most people will tell you to search. Since you're new, I figured I'd spare the BS and actually answer you.

I use a wireless NIC card in my setup. Pretty much because I don't want to spend extra money on a cell phone or GPRS modem equivalent setup. The wireless Inet card that I have is nice, but I'm not a wardriver or anything.

I pretty much use it to sync files in my garage, between my carputer and server in the house. It's also nice to connect to my own internet and upload logs to www.whereismygps.com and for GPSecure. Other than that, I have periodically parked outside a coffee shop that offers free wireless internet to pull down my emails.

Overall, the GPRS modem or cell phone setup would be ideal. It's a dedicated modem connected directly to your carputer. If you do opt to try the wireless 802.* card method, I suggest you mount the antenna in the window, or get one of the external wireless antenna mounts. That will (obviously) help with your signal reception.

Interesting - is that unlimited internet for 20 cents a day? Also, where can I find out more info. Is Boost those cheap phones they sell in Walmart? It's just prepay or whatever?

    Hitting up google now....

Do you already have an existing voice plan with T-mobile? from what I can tell on the website, it seems like you have to have a voice plan to add the $5.99 a month internet access to, and if you want just internet it's like $50 a month... or did you find a way around this?
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

I have a voice plan already with t-mobile. I added "T-Zones $5.99". I have the phone "http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_w800-1089.php" Not from the usa.. Anywho.. With T-Zones.. you are able to get wap websites. Basically just the crap yahoo wap stuff.. Weather.. movies.. basic basic. What I did was load up this program on my phone called "Opera Mini". Basically it allowed me to get full internet through the T-Zones. Idk how it does it but it works very well. I then set up this Trillian plugin called "Im Everywhere" I used Opera Mini to connect to my AIM thats running at home to send txt messages.

As for as the internet via my phone? There is this program for sony ericsson that configs the computer to use the phones internet via usb cable. I connected with that and used T-Mobiles proxy.. So.. as far as I know im still under the t-zones flat rate.
