Thread: Need advise on mounting my computer in my MR2

I dare say, that yellow car is a little too messy of an install for me, leaves too many wires exposed. You can do the same kind of thing without so many exposed wires. I think it will be fine above the sub, but don't rest it on the sub. I would get 4 studs/special jam nuts or something and put them where needed through the back peice, then make 4 simple angle brackets bolted to the case. That way, if you need to remove it, you can just unbolt it from the floor.

If you have it above the sub, on mounts, attached to the carpet/fiberboard stuff that makes your firewall, it shouldn't have too many issues. A buddy had a computer under the seat, with the sub right behind it...it was in direct line with the vibration from the sub. I personally have not had a vibration issue, and I have motor mount insert which makes idle vibrate quite a bit....more transfer from the motor.

But why isn't inside the panel a good spot? That looks like it works great!

i doubt an MR2 has enough room behind any panels to work, lol

correct, it's the current install in my car. It's the area behind the rear seat pannel behind the driver.

You would be amazed at what kind of room you can find behind interior panels.

i didnt say it in this thread, but in your thread (mrcat, on mr2oc) i said the wires are messy (well i thought i did) and that id be running it through the carpet after i relocate the comp

well, with the MR2 being an Mid-Engine car, with the spare in the front, you are kinda screwed on locations for the pc, unless u take the spare out, lol

although, looking at pics of the mr2s spare tire area, you could probably fit the PC there, but you'd have to fabricate some kind of holder for it

i could probly fit it in there some how, but then itll be a hassle when pluggin in a jump drive or somethin you know? plus id have to route about 15 wires through the firewall

the jump drive shouldnt be too hard, as long as its usb/firewire, just get an extension into the car

but, the mobo and stuff is pretty small no?, cant fit it off to the side there? granted my idea needs you to take it out of the case its already in, which you might not want to do, so, yeah, space wise ur kinda screwed with an MR2, lol

I would still put it above the amp. Or you could get a new case that is thinner, so you could maybe use it under the seat? Remember a seat can mocked up on spacers or washers, and you wouldn't notice too much difference. And sometimes all you need to gain is 1/2 inch or less.

Mine is impossible to work on without removing the seat, but it's easy to take out the seat. Makes adjustment impossible, also. But who cares? It's the passenger seat.

would i need metal spacers? id also need longer screws/bolts then too right?
