something to think about, ill see how much room i would need
metal spacers, yes obviously, lol
depends how long the bolts are to begin with, but thats a possiblity as well, but hey, bolts are cheap $1-$2 from any hardware store
something to think about, ill see how much room i would need
and for the record, when i meant mount it by the tire, i meant to the right in the picture there, on the caution sticker
lol
ya but then id have to run a crap load of wires through the fire wall, and well i dont think i can fit the rca cables back out of the grommet, dunno how i got them in, but i tried to yank em out and well it didnt wanna come out
im really thinking about the spacers on the seat, it should work. i still have quite a bit of room from the wheel to my knees so ya, all i need is like 3/4 of an inch so ill just get an inch
the bolts SHOULD be the same size for all 4 of them right? ill check sometime later
i'd assume their the same size
but dont assume, in my experience, the second you assume something, and go buy anything, you've just wasted money, 'cause you were wrong in the first place
so take the seat out, its not that hard anyway, and make sure the bolts are the same size, then measure how much height you want, and buy appropriate size bolts
Hey there,
Noticed your post. I have got an MR2 AW11 (so first model), but of course - same problem - no room :P
I have mounted the carputer in a custom built case, and mounted it in place of the existing Tape / CD rack between the seats. I used the existing brackets to mount the box by bending them back to almost flat. I then mounted it flat against the brackets which allowed for a little breathing space as well. Drilling holes in the backing plate allowed for a little more airflow.
Here are some pics of how it looks mounted between seats:
This carputer is a work in progress, but I do hope this helps. I found it easy to run the wires down the centre console and under the dash to the touch screen, etc:
The box was made of perspex and just covered with some black trim to disguise it. Heat is of course an issue, but an extra tiny fan at the base and holes drilled in the top allows for good air flow.

ya i think if i covered my compy in carpet, it wouldnt disapate heat as well, and it already runs 60ºC on start up after sitting in the sun (right now its behind the seat, so it somewhat blocks sun (the seat) and so if i had it in the middle, and in direct sunlight, it would probably get hotter
my car doesnt have the box, so no brackets, i kinda dont wanna pull back the carpet on the firewall and drill into it too. plus its more visible there, and so more people would be looking to jack it imo
btw, you should have used darker carpet so it blends in more, but it looks nice nonethe less
i think the mk1 has room under the seats, the mk2 doenst (theres huge hump in the floor under the seats)
i think im gonna try the riser/spacer thing though. would it be safe to just use some round spacers? or should i get bigger (as in wider) spacers?
edit: ehh, i actually cant use spacers to make my seat higher, the bolts on the seats (front are horizontal, back bolts are vertical, well wouldnt allow the seat to fit with spacers on you know?)
Not sure if you've seen my setup in my 91T but if your board is small enough...
MP3 MR2 V2.0 is done!
man this is pretty old, ya i got it here (did it like 3 months ago)

i am nearing completion on my mr2, and i am planning on building a carputer for it... the internals will prolly be mounted behind the passenger seat, or in the frunk.. prolly build my own lexan case..
