Thread: Idea... and some news

I attempted to make having a whole carpc system a little easier by calling Alpine and Pioneer today and I came out empty handed.

Basically, I was asking them if they had any future plans on bringing out an in dash touchscreen dvd player with Integrated USB to control a pc so one can use the touchscreen on the head unit to control the pc... Saving money and space by having the head unit and screen all in one.

Alpine - Knew no future plans and didn't expect to ever hear anything like that for a long time.

Pioneer - Sounded interesting but because of legal matters, Pioneer would probably not attempt to introduce this type of integration for the sole purpose of laws and safety. They said it is hard enough just to get navigation by the laws, if we introduced the capability of running a whole computer in a car, the possibilities are endless, resulting in possible safety problems.



I just wanted to share that with people, now onto something i seen and was wondering if this is easily possible-

If i were to buy an in dash dvd player with motorized touchscreen, can the module be hacked with this -

This is a USB controller board used to customly install touchscreen capability on screens that do not have it (along with the actual touchscreen panel too)

IF your screen already has touchscreen, would this be able to hookup to virtually any motorized touchscreen head unit? The adapters that come with it run from the screen to the board and from the board directly out to USB to your pc.

Thoughts?
