dum dum d'dummmm dummmmm-dum-dum-dum dum dum duuuummmm. RIP epia.
what you gonna do with the corpse? burn it on camera? mount it as a piece of morbid art?
My original Via Epia M10000 finally gave it up today on the workbench.
It was my first car PC and while I've moved on to a Mac Mini, it was nice to have both a PC and a Mac in the car. I was using it for nav and switching back and forth between it and the Mac using a KVM switch.
The other day, I tried to start it up as I began a long trip, but the HD didn't spin up. I used my work laptop instead and brought the PC into the house. I finally got around to putting it on the bench today to see what was wrong with it.
BAM! Upon startup, the mobo blew a cap.
I got a little over two years out of the main board. It sat through two some pretty hot summer temps and some winter lows of single digit Fahrenheit temps.
It was simple, easy to use, and probably the least tempermental component in my system.
[Sniff] R.I.P. little mobo.![]()

Doesn't VIA offer 3 year warranties on their EPIA boards?? RMA...
Here it is!
Quote from via.com.tw:
1. VIA Technologies Inc. facility in Fremont, CA will process returns for manufacturers according to the terms and conditions of manufacturer’s warranty statement.
2. A three-year limited warranty from the date of purchase will be provided by VIA Technologies to its customers in the United States of America. If the product becomes defective during normal use, VIA will replace, with product of equal or greater quality, or repair the product for a period of one year at no charge to VIA Technologies’ customers. In the 2nd and 3rd year of service VIA Technologies Inc. will charge $16/board/incident plus component fee.
3. Out of warranty repair charge: $30/board/incident plus component fee.
No way! Thanks, Tidder! I'm going to try that and see how far I get.... Maybe it's not dead after all!
