mmh yes but without throwing all out of the car, i bought this car only for the can bus, after that i plan to resell it so it would be nice that i can rollback to the original state.
I mean i already have my porsche, the bmw will only helps me to complete my project with the can bus management that unfortunately my car doesn't have.

Going back to OEM is as difficult as removing the screen and putting the radio back where it belongs. This is NOT a permanent modification.

You should read up on the ENORMOUS amount of BMWs done on this site.

And, it is not a CAN-BUS, it is an I-BUS. They are VERY different.

ok no can, but ibus, i wrote can as it's used to describe a bus where everything in the car is plugged on it and controlled with it

well about the rolling back i was pretty sure that the darn thing was completely melted with the dash, so it must be very tightly mounted, i will look at it closer.

Now about the posts it's nice to know that some braves already tried tampering with it. I was a bit reluctuant to dismantle the dash which looks so nice

Since you are not intended to do carPC, get a laptop/UMPC/tabletPC and one of those goose neck mount or proclip and call it a day. Hell, you don't even need any type of mount. Throw it on the passenger seat, plug in the power cord and you are done.

I don't have a laptop at the moment but this is a good idea, maybe with a tiny pda this could be usefull as well for diags purpose and a minimalist service as gps and/or as a mp3/ogg player.

You can try our latest interfaces for Dell, HP and Palm PDAs for IBus.
    http://indashpc.org/new/adapters/car2pc-bmw.html
It includes text support and ad hoc commands from IBus.
