automatic head lights

I was thinking of seeing about altering Aaron's highbeam kill circuit to wire up an automatic headlight circuit.

It would sense the light to turn the lights on, and set it up with the ignition so it only works when the car is running.

This would not replace the standard headlamp switch, it would just be a nice little trick.

Anybody have any comments or suggestions? I don't know a lot about circuits at all, so I'll probably get help from a friend

My GrandAm has this built in. I never touch the head light switch at all. DRL during the day, and when it gets dark enough out the headlights come on full. Only annoying part is that its impossible to turn the head lights off at night while the car is running. The GA also has a timer to kill the lights after about 30 seconds of getting out of the car.

If you can get it to work, it's an awesome feature to have. Just don't drive another car without it and forget to turn them off

I used to drive a malibu and that had this feature as well..

So far it hasn't been a problem to adjust to it since I take pretty good care of this car.

here in Sweden there is a law that says you have to have the lights on all the time.
When i start the car, so does the half-beam(???) and to get full light i have to turn the switch and change the lever, and if its on when the car is off and i open the door, a beeeeeep tells me i left the lights on.

so now you know!

that's basically the same way my malibu worked.. except that at night time the lamps automatically went to full power. It had a light sensor that would switch it on that way.

But I think most cars have that warning beep (thank the fates)

Same law here in Canada, called Daytime Running Lights, high-beams run at 1/2 power all the time. My Nissan Pathfinder also has the sensor that turns the normal headlights on when it gets dark enough. Man this is one of the best developments in cars since intermittent wipers!

anyone know how to take them off or where i can research how to tun them off, bc i put an 8000k hid xenon kit in my friends 2004 galant with that feature but for some reason when the actual swsitch is off and the daytime running lights turn on the lights flicker like strobes and dont stop until he turns the lights on manually!so he has to keep them on all the time?someon let me know if they know how to diffuse the problem.
