So I want relocate the bottons on my HU into my dash... either on the sides or below my TS. is it possible to tap into my face plate to relocate the bottons else where?

Your best bet would be to relocate teh faceplate somewhere you have access to it. This is mose feasable for a removable faceplate type of headunit.
Another option is steering-wheel controls, if they will work with your headunit.
Another option is the remote for the headunit, assuming there is one. Getting the remote to aim at the IR sensor for the headunit could be tricky, depeding on where you relocate the HU.


There is no single, easy answer to your dilemma.

yeah, there are many ways a headunit can control itself, from logic controls, to simple switches... the easiest way to do what your after would be to burry the head, & then hack into the remote for it with your own buttons...

you HAVE to have some way of controlling it, unless you want to start developing a mind control unit this can do nicely...

if you really wanted to get nutz, you could hack into the radio & build an interface through a microcontroller, then build software for it, & use this directly from your pc screen, either as a pluggin for your favorite frontend, or through stand alone program that you would have to develop... this is the hardest way

inbetween would be the possibility of extending the actual switches from the head, depending on the way the headunit is built, this can be from anywhere from easy, to extremely difficult, depending....

that would be easy

guess you've really gotta start digging into the unit itself to find out, like's already been said...
