My 2002 Jetta had two cup holders and an arm rest with space inside. They learn with time![]()
My only problem with VW's (now that my browser has eaten this message once) is that (esp on my passat) the interiors are layed out too cleanly, from the german minimalistic design (heh, "You do not need a cup holder, for you will never be drinking a beverage while driving down the autobahn at 130mph). I keep seeing all these installs with keypads and switches tucked in little drawers or blank filler pieces. I dont have a armrest (at all actually) with a cubby in it, or a change drawer to put switches in. All my dash space is, in a minimalistic style, (I can do ANYTHING with out looking) is taken up with switches and gagues. The only large bonus (large large) is that if I ever manage to get off my arse and actually fab some sort of retainment mechanism, I can mount my lcd in the one cubby in the dash with out having to relocate anything.

Yeah, I know, the B4 chassis passat (95-97, I have a B3, 1990-1994) had an armrest, and cup holders that were attached to the passengers side of the center console (that looked like an eyeglasses case when closed). They're slowly adding amenities.

My Elantra is the first cheap car to have two well placed cupholders that can handle up to 32oz cups. There's a fair amount of storage space and everything's powered. It has side and front airbags and a long warranty. Not only that, but it can handle a 7" widescreen LCD set in the dash. Those Koreans know how to build a car. G'damn I got a good deal.
So if you're looking for a new car, you should at least check it out.
And have a mighty Happy B-Day, MP3DUB.
*EDIT* Was this off topic? I got started with cupholders and didn't stop.![]()
RX-7s don't have cup holders. They are not confused about their purpose.![]()

Cup holders! They're a bit of a luxurary, next you'll say it came with a stero as standard!, the Mini didn't even come with a dash! you don't know how good you've got it.![]()

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
