using in dash dvd player and tft with pc?

I am getting a new car in about 2 months and want to install instead of factory radio a car pc. the car i want to get is the solstice gxp, where i have the option to leave the radio away. that gets me 2 din slots i can use.

Now i have seen some in dash tft displays and the go from 400-500$. And then i would prefer thouch screen as well. eitherwise electric driven or detachable i would prefer. Now i was wondering if it is possible to use those dvd players like jvc with their tft display as well instead?

that would be the specs of the jvc kd-av7010 model

the picture shows the product as well. this thing goes right now for 500$ as well. looks better, has a lot of functions already, is better quality, are just some positive aspects.

what would be perfect then would be to create a small pc (which fits in the din slot underneath) or buy even one of those pre-existing ones (2nd picture) available for 500$. I would go for the first idea, so i can create my one design. it shouldn't be to hard to create a nice front brezel, or something like that. maybe even another huge display or just to hide usb and other stuff to plug in or even both? with the new 160watt mini-psu there should be even enough power for a mobile P4.

what i want my system to be able of is

    watching tv and videos
listening to my own music of the hard drive
internet (mail etc.) and wifi (to upload stuff from apartment to car)
    radar jammer (any ideas?)
    navigation
    windows xp compatible
programms including office, skype, and smaller games

Do you think it would be possible to use the dvd drive from the display with the pc as well to upload programms etc.? or would i have to get a second one? in short - is this dvd player somehow pc compatible?

will i be possible maybe to upgrade it and change it into a blue ray burner, when slim line gets available? (i mean 50GB on one disk for 25$ i wouldn't need to get extra external harddrives for movies (always growing in size - buy about 3 movies a week and about a 200GB music sound selection - i know what for - just to have it and be able to enjoy whenever i want).

do you think it is possible to use the new mini mac computer and squeeze it into a din format somehow? could be a cheap basis for a good pc. windows runs on it now too, due to the new chips they use.

this setup could be more powerful, good looking and be even in a good price range. all together it should be available for about a 1200$ budget, inclusive new front bezel and own design factors. the t3 goes for 2500$. good looking, but not a thouch screen as well i think, i really want to have. and if that combo works, i might not even need to turn on pc to watch from dvd or listen to the radio or music file. that would be a very nice bonus.

So please let me know what you think about all those thing. any comment is appreciated.

You can output video to it ONLY. No touchscreen control of the PC.

I believe the MacMini alread fits in a DIN slot. If not, it's damn close.

The Infill T3 does include a touchscreen.

Now that I've shot huge holes in your plan (sorry about that), it's time for you to do some reasearch on your own.

damn it doesn't work, but thanks for your reply. do you know of a tft touch screen display with a dvd drive built in as well for pc use. I would love to get the drive behind it. i saw a few, but their looks are cheesy.

After starting work on my CarPC, I shoudl've waited for the Nintendo Wii. It looks promising... eh? I only read tidbits of info on it. It's just an idea :-)

    found the pc i want

have a look at this model guys. it is a din pc, somewhere from australia. gotta find out where to get this one. nice looks, but might be designed as a reg. desktop though. only problem it lacks usb and stuff in front.

    Detailed Product Description

    Specifications:

about the tft i have to think about. that one u showed me would be awesome when i could implement the pc into that case as well. i have 2 din slots available. and i don.t want to have it sitting out somewhere or in the trunk. the solstice has limited space already. i like the kinds like liliput where it folds upwards. what i'd like to have would be one with the drive just underneath it. when closed it should have a small display on the front (top of tft). i like the infill, but 2500$ and then the upgrades i want is a little to much. and i like building stuff like that on my own anyway, so i can fix it easy as well. maybe i find a case i can use for my needs. first i will just order the mainboard etc. and see how small it gets, and what i can implement.

best would be if i could just implement the whole pc behind a 2 din tft display, which can move down a bit to access the dvd drive. like the picture you showed me. maybe with even usb, fiwi underneath the dvd drive as well.

maybe i find a store with the product you showed me to inspect it. when i can change drive behind it and empty it even out when necessary to get a whole diff pc behind it. and that still would go cheaper than the infill t3.
