Putting a computer in an F150

I have a Ford F150 and I am in the process of installing a computer in it, and I was just wondering if anyone has ever installed a computer in a truck. If you have any comments at all please post.

I'm sure there's plenty of people with computers in trucks. What was your main concern, space?
I have a gmc sierra (single cab) with an amp behind me, sub behind the passenger, and soon to be computer under the middle seat which still leaves plenty of room under the both seats.
I don't think you can fit a standard atx case in your f150 (if it's single cab) but there are plenty of small mobo and cases around.

Im not worried about anything. I cut down an old case with my dremel and have everything fitting in it just fine. I was just wanting to see pictures and problems other projects had so I can get some ideas. By the way under my seat there is like 2 or 3 inches of space so I can't really put too much under there. That is why im putting it behind the seat. LOL if I had a 1U server case it could fit just fine under the seat.

    doubtfull

I doubt a 1u server case would fit under there. Height wise, Yes, but they are pretty deep. It totally depends on what ones you get, but I beleive the ones in our datacenter are 20" deep and 19" wide. You really have that much OPEN space underthere? Becuase you can find cheap 1u servers if you wanted to go that option, but I a doubtful that it would fit.

yeah Im not sure of the open space under there just the height. isn't a 1u server like 1.5" in height? It might be fun to try in later upgrades or something. I could put it behind the seat and it would look better than the cut in half case Im going to have.

Mine's going in a truck. I copied the overhead console of an SUV and extended it back all the way to the back of the cab and mounted where the light was. Since I have a smaller truck, I had to make a section go kind of low, but I put that in the extend cab section. Since you have a larger truck you can probabally fit more above than I. I used to see a lot of overhead consoles that held stereos, speakers, cb radios, etc so you may be able to pick one up if you don't want to build one.

that sounds like a good idea i'll have to do something like that for the lcd. Im wondering now that i have my case ready how I should mount it behind the seat. I was thinking of finding or making some type of bracket to secure it to. The problem is I don't want to have to make holes in the back of my cab to mount the bracket.

eugenen I would love to see pics of that.

Here's where I'm planning on putting mine: ftp://66.57.55.14/sbc/sbc_seat.jpg
It's hard to tell but it's on the middle hump right under the middle seat.
It's not done yet (the lcd, uir, and psu still need to be stuffed in there somehow) but it'll give you an idea of what i'm going for.
