Nice! Looks a lot better than mine. I cobbled it together out of a bottle cap, busted dvd player and sheet of abs.

It still looks convincing from outside. The plan was to find a double din (with tape deck ) and mold it into doors. I keep meaning to hit the junkyards, but never seem to get around to it.

From outside, it does the trick. Glad you reminded me, I just got a nice double din on ebay. I'm going to make a mold of it and make split doors I think. I'm going to leave the window out so I can drive around and still see what's playing as it pretty much lines up with the skin.

I'm not only concerned with hiding it while parked, but also sometimes when I'm driving around the neighborhood (near downtown Boston). I worry that if I'm just cruising local, someone will notice it and hit my car later as I've only seen one car same make/model/color as mine in MA once in five years.

I'm also tempted to make the buttons on the door faceplate work. That would be pretty cool. Then when I'm just using music, I could keep it pretty low key and not have to screw around with the doors.

Both of those look very convincing and I don't think anyone would want to jack shotgunefx's setup
I was going to take a photo of my dash empty and stick it on a flat cover so it would like it's already been stolen Not sure how well that would work though.

    Hope you're right about that

A pic of the one I just won. I'll have to extend it a bit as the spot is really 3 DIN with the HVAC removed.

Very good idea about keeping a window and utilizing it. I actually haven't thought about it but did find that my window is still clean and functional At this point, however, I am intending to keep it nice and basic, hide-only. In the future, I might reconfigure to touch a touch-screen to do something. Or even modify front-end to fit in a window.

Be sure to post your setup when it's done.

My friends were convincing me to do the same. Take a picture and settled at that. I was going to do it and I was going to laminate it. But something prevented me to ever start that project off the ground. Thinking about how to achieve a 3d look of a flat picture etc. I just decided to find a broken radio in classifieds and go with that.

Will do. Fairly certain the first go will just be doors (with no electronics), otherwise, it will end up being something else that sits around and mocks me at 80% done. Way too many projects I need to finish up.

Well, the radio came today. The face plate is just clipped on, so it comes off nice and easy. It's about 3/8 bigger than the double din opening (I didn't realize they were countersunk), so whether molding, or just using the face itself, I'll have to do some trimming.

Another plus, I think I can use the double din enclosure itself with a little trimming. That would make a nice box to hold all my electronics. If I can manage it with the backspace of the LCD, think I'll mount everything in the box and just put a port on the back, so I can yank everything out for easy maintanence.

Looks perfect for this. I'll post some pics in a bit.
