Coming along nicely, had to trim it a bit. Still don't know if I'm going to use it, or make a mold, probably should do the later. The depth (especially the tape chute) is a bit of a problem. My bigger concern is that if I don't mold it into a door, I'm going to end up breaking it as I have no good place to store it when not in use.

Excellent work on that shotgunefx. I need to do something like this as well.

suotgunefx: I keep my dummie plate in a door pocket or under my seat. I don't think I'll break it. Are you planning to make yours really thin?

My map pockets aren't big enough, my current one, often ends up under the seat or otherwise abused. One good thing about the ABS quickie is that's outside of the buttons, it's damn flat.

This one is a bit trickier, I've cut the depth about half so far with careful hacksawing, but the buttons for instance, are pretty deep, have metal bars in them and can only flatten so much. I'm thinking I might actually mold it after all,

I've got a ton of raycrete (ez-poly) here and it's pretty easy to work (strong, lightweight, not too messy), but I don't feel like waiting on something to mold it into. I could probably use more ez-poly if I played around with releases. Car wax might work. I tried some polyseamseal RTV silicone adhesive, but it takes a LONG time to dry. (Though BoeShield T-9 seems to be a good release)

I wonder if I have any 1/8 abs sheet around here. This might be worth a shot throwing on the vacuum-form table once it sets up. I need to make a better carrier frame though. (Man, everything is a hassle )

Yeah I agree, I felt that way when I started molding, my first experience, I had thought it was gonna be easy...

LOL... nice idea.. but if you were smart then you would have just display a screen saver of a dodgy deck.

So according to you when you leave the car at night your carputer is running and screen saver is displayed? And which battery backs it up? Lunnar battery I take it?

Nice work. I kind of wish I went without a tape as it makes depth a bit of a problem. Right now, I'm poking about 1/4" more than I want to be at the top.

The HVAC knobs turned out to be the biggest PITA, just cutting them down and keeping them shallow.

I used to do this stuff all the time, it was just 15 years ago (Shotgun EFX). And of course you can never find anything local. I think I'm going to order some platinum silicone today and mold it. That way I can get it as shallo-w as I like and have a nice smooth back to it.

I think I'll make the plate out of ez-poly (raycrete) or maybe even a silicone. That would be kind of cool, I could just wad it up and stick it in the map pocket. Just don't know how UV stable most silicones are. Guess I got some reading to do.
