Those are amplifier preouts, not inputs. They are used for connecting an amplifier. What you need is some sort of AUX input cable.
hey im sorry if this topic has been talked about a lot i have tried searching but havent found anything.
i am trying to connect my mp3 player (creative zen) to my car cd player (pioneer deh-p3500). i have dual rca preouts (front and rear, or front and sub). I don't know much about this stuff so i was wondering if i could connect my mp3 player through these instead of buying an expensive adapter. and if i can, do i have to use both sets of preouts in order to get audio in my front and rear speakers? thanks.

You need this to connect an external audio source: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-1exWkIH...x&i=469PIOPRCA
Sorry, no other way around it. There are ways to 'build' your own cable, but you'd have to search.
will you guys take a look at this link please. this person said something about preamp outputs also being used as inputs. please read what he says about it and tell me if you all think it sounds correct and would work for my mp3 player. thanks.
