    1966 Chevrolet Pickup Carputer

Howdy everybody, im glad i found this place, been lookin for a site like this. (new member). i am 17 and i love computers and old trucks, so i wanna put them together. i have experience in building computers as i build them for people and make some good money doing it. also i like to think i can make some pretty cool custom or modded cases. i wanna put a carputer in my truck but i have very limited space as there is a gas tank behind the seat. i removed the glove box and i believe i can fit it in that space, i have no plans for a head unit, just the carputer and amps and stuff, ive got 2 10" JL audio subs, a Alpine MRD M1000 amp(my uncle gave it to me!) and im still trying to get my PC parts together. ive put a parts list together and i wanna see what yall think. VIA WPIA M10000 MB, 512mb or 1gb mem, slim DVD/CD-RW, and i have a 120gb HD laying here not doin a thing, M2-ATX DC-DC 160watt PSU, GPS, still looking for touchscreen. i would also like to have a radio tuner but i have not been able to find one. if it will fit in the glove box area it will be tight. i was thinking about getting a old laptop from ebay and going from there but i believe that would be to much trouble. i know its a little strange putting a carpc in a 1966 chevy but it will be one of a kind. subs are going under the seats, ive made some custom speaker boxes to go behind my head and there are holes that someone cut in the doors for speakers. i just wanted to tell yall my ideas and see what you think. if you have any ideas let me know and i will get some pics of the glove box and dash and truck and see what you think. any input will be appreciated.

Sounds like a great start. Let's see some pics. I've got a '64 Nova that I'm putting in a 'puter. It is a full restoration and the one thing I'm still looking for is a way to do the guages.
The car is mostly complete. Wanted to hide all the stereo system so I've got a SecretAudio SST head unit, Kappa Amp, Kappa 6x9, Kappa 4", bluetooth streaming audio.

Moving the gas tank from behind the seats to under the bed is a common mod on those trucks. Most people consider the current location unsafe. There are kits available.
This would give you much more room for additions such as the carPC.

    Gas Tank Relocation

Well i thought about doing that but as a counter balance the last owner welded a pretty thick piece of steel under the bad where the relocated tank would go and i know i could cut it out but i think i like it there, it makes a difference, since compared to the front of the truck the rear is light. i might put a fuel cell in the bed behind the cab because the extra space behind the seat would come in handy for what i want to do. IDK what im gonna do about that yet but ill figure it out(hopefully). good news about the space in the glove box though, i had a full size ATX motherboard here and i stuck it in the glove box just to see and i could fit that in there(but im not) and still have room for everything so its all good. got another draw back, if my truck sits for a couple days the battery goes completely dead so ive been tryin to figure out what was draining it and it turns out its the regulator for the alternator is stuck or something IDK so now i gotta fix that. its one thing after another......... anyways thanks for the help.
