No Range on Viper Remote Car Starter

I just purchased a vehicle with a Viper 160xv remote starter already installed..the starter will work fine up to a distance of 100 feet or so, but not beyond. I know this particular starter is rated for a distance of 1/4 mile. I replaced batteries in BOTH remotes, and the range is exactly the same. Any simple fix here? My next step (IN MY MIND) is to replace the antenna? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

move the antenna. Put it somewhere that it is visible to the sky and test it. It should work.

Also it depends where you live, and the terrain around you. If you were in the middle of no where with no radio waves at all, on a flat plain then you could probably get 1/4mi.

I know in Colorado because of NORAD and all the military bases and hilly terrain, remotes never work predictably. At my house it will work no more than 2 or 3 rooms away from the garage, but when I am at school I can start it from accross campus (just about 1mi).

Try placing the remote directly under your chin when pressing the button. Should increase distance a bit.

Actually not just the chin. Any part of your body will work. All it does it make your body an aerial and broadcasts the signal alot farther. But this comes at a cost, public humiliation pressing your keychain all over yourself!

you're temple or just beside your chin near your jaw also does quite well.

the show top gear did a demonstation/check into this

I know it may sound stupid and like some old lie, but it does work. You can probably find some wiki article on it. Basically instead of the puny 4cm antenna in your reomte, you get an antenna that is as tall as you are! Sorta.

Wow, this is cool. You look like an ***, but it works! I tried this in a parking lot and it really did disarm my alarm from a greater distance.

Thanks to all that replied....I took the antenna in and had it tested at an electronics shop...it's defective! I replaced it, and works great....they advised that static electricity may have been responsible for the antenna's demize..they recommended a grounding strap to avoid future damage to the antenna....at $70 a pop for antennas, I might just do it!
