Interesting, Nemesis. I have this remote, and I don't have it powered. Have you ever tried using your without powering it? Here's part of the mod that I did on my receiver:

Man I have already scratched it up enough from taking it apart
It has a single circuit board with a couple of ICs on it. The IR receiver is soldered into the end, and the board is obviously slightly smaller than the box. You could probably unsolder the IR receiver and put some extention cables on it (actually I am thinking of doing that one...)

Blurp.
Your receiver is not the same as mine.
Inside there is a PIC micro controller as well as a few other component(voltage regulator, RS232 driver etc).
I would take a picture except its mounted in the car and I dont want to strip it out.
Mine definitley does not work unless powered.

My receiver looks exactly like that one internally(before you modded it).. the chips are on the underside of mine.. and it doesn't work unless it's powered as well.
Good idea using that connector for the extention...I will be stealing that idea.
That's strange. My receiver has the power input on the data cable, just like the one shown by DodgeCummins, but I plugged it in to my serial port, and it just worked.

hi there
since the cappuccino GX1 mini PC has a built in IR port, can it act as the second IR receiver for the reomte to become fully functional?
thank you![]()
If it is a real remote control IR port...not IRDA...

Just got around to swapping the plug gender and swapping the pins etc - all works a treat nowVery neat little keypad. Highly recommended for anyone else out there.
Who can argue with 10 quid for a small wireless keyboard that drops in your door pocket! (With mouse control too, should you need it)

Incidentally, I just tried it without any power attached to the receiver, it works a treat! Just plugs into serial port and nothing more.![]()
