:) After a great deal of effort understanding Girder and even more trial and error, I have finally manage to get some code working for this remote control ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=3036181158 )
If anyone else is using this device and needs the code then get in touch.
I got my remote today and have tried EVERYTHING to get the QWERTY working... All I seem to get is two IR codes one on the pres of the button and one on the release, but the problem is that for most of the QWERTY keys, the two codes are the same. However, by seting the remote to 906 (designed for use with the Toshiba tv box) I was able to get nearly all of the front buttons working. Has anyone figured out anything about the QWERTY buttons? if so PLEASE post info. And Nemesis, how about posting the Girder file somewhere? Thanks!

I really struggled with Girder initally so I understand the problems others are having. The GML I have includes both the left and right shift key support with one proviso and that is that the shift key is a toggle function e.g. hit either shift key and the uppecase characters are type, hit shift again then lower case recomence. I will try to get the file up on my web site, until them if you want the file then email me.

The remote has two emmitters, 1 used for all the normal IR functions e.g. front number keys, on/off, red, yellow, green, blue keys etc and the second is used for the serial interface unit that is supplied with the controller(this carries the QWERTY info).
For my car I have fitted a second detector in the set top unit with its own 5V regulator and that detector I have connected to the printer port. I use the "ParIR" plugin for this soley to decode all commands other than the QWERTY info.
For the QWERTY data I use the "Generic Serial" plugin and configure it for 9600 baud n,8,1 and hardware handshaking, turn off the init code and timed reset check boxes also turn off the filter function.
The 9 way d-type connector supplied with the set top unit is the wrong gender so I have changed this to a female. I am very pleased with the results and have just about every key working(when I decide what to use the front number keys for!!)

Thanks for all of the information guys. One more question, I did not recieve the Settop serial piece with my remote. ( I thought It was part of the deal, but I dont' know, didn't get any instructions either). My question is can I use something like the IRMAN from evation.com (i have one right now) or does it have to be the settop piece? Thanks for all of the help!

I'm afraid I only have experience with the set top interface that was supplied with the remote. The last time I looked he still had at least 4 available and at £10 a go it would be worth buying one.

I just bought one from a fellow in the UK. I'm going to try out your file and see how it works. If I understand you correctly, you need to have the matching IR receiver in order for the remote to function. My question is how does the receiver connect to the device? I bought the remote only, so I guesss this is not going to just connect to my laptop's IR port? Any info would be helpful, I am new to trying out the IR port on my thinkpad, don;t even know the standards.

Dont quote me on this but I believe your IR port on the laptop will be LIRC and as far as I know the remote is NOT LIRC compatible. Having said that I have never tried it so give it a go.
My understanding of this remote is that the signalling was ON Digitals own standard but as I said in my previous post I have only had this working with the original interface.
I added a text file to the download with information on what I did to get this working so download it again if you dont have it.
Remember that this remote has two transmitters so most of the normal functions will probably work. The QWERTY section was the problem and that was why I released this file.

I'm just curious...if your not using this remote with the IR eye on your laptop then what are you using it to control? is it IRMan? If there is a set top piece that works with this remote than how do you connect that piece to your PC? Am I missing something here? Don't mean to make anybody repeat themselves but....
