    Angry Haicom 202E

    I cant seem to find out how to get my GPS to work... its a Haicom model 202E bought from gpsw.co.uk

    anyway.. iwe installed the latest driver from the webpage haicom.com.tw (which were for 98/me & w2k)

    When i hooked it up for the first time. The Computer said, new USB device found.. I installed the driver, and it is after this the problem starts.. The mouse starts moving around the screen. Clicking and grabbing icons around, drop down the menu's .. sigh.. anyone know what the problem could be?

    the driver said that if would install som sort of a usb to serial driver. ?

    *strange* arg

    Do GPS's make a lot of interferance ... ?

    MMMmm I have the HI-201E, which is a ps/2 & serial connection and have no problems at all (infact its ******* wickied )

    but more on your problem, do you have a serial/usb mouse by any chance? because it sounds like its taking over the mouse driver...

    hmm.. no.. have a PS/2 mouse... not serial nor usb..
    wierd.. hope someone has a solution for my case...

    This has been discussed a few times before and is a common problem with GPS and Windows, because Windows is too stupid to tell the difference between a serial mouse and a GPS.

    I think the easiest way to stop it detecting as a mouse would be to plug in a serial mouse, boot windows and let it detect it, then choose disable device in device manager. That should stop it from searching for another serial mouse (your GPS) in the future.

    Another solution is to change your mouse to a serial type and plug it into COM1, and your GPS into COM2. Windows will only install one serial mouse at a time.

    Do a search on the board for more info.

    ehm.. the GPS is a USB.. u keep repeating about serial thingy ?

    have you gotten your info straight? or?.. ehm.. i dunno.. i did notice that the usb was detected as a microsoft ball mouse hehe

    ehm... Haicom has the lamest driver support.. maybe ill try the GPS on windowsME

    Anything usb should be under the usb root hub, but, as was said, windows does have the habit of making serial gps's into serial mice in the device manager, and the gps is still a serial gps with a usb bridge on it, and a driver that makes windows things its another serial port, which is why windows turns it into a mouse. So you can blame windows and not the driver .

    See MP3DUB's post. Windows couldnt give a toss what the physical connection is, only how it is presented to Windows by the driver. Yes it connects via USB, but only because it has an onboard Serial>USB convertor. Its like those seperate Serial>USB connectors you can get which add another DB9 serial port to your PC.

    ok bump! btw

    so, i got the GPS working today wee

    another problem came up... the Roadmap software found the GPS and it was setup thru the USB 2 Serial Bridge... (to com5) anyway.. The GPS searches for satellites... but does'nt find any..

    arg

    even outside the house it does'nt find any satellites...

    is the Hi202e supposed to have a extra antenna?

    How long did you give it? Some GPS receivers can take up to 10minutes from cold start to find the location.
