Simple GPS coordinate logging to text file app

Has anyone written a simple app to log NMEA data (or simply Lat/Lon coordinates) to a text file?

I looked all over and found only 2 apps but they are relatively heavy in interface and usage. They don't automatically start logging upon startup etc.

I think Compass by Curiosity did that.

True, I had forgotten it had Log data option. I still wish there was something really light and simple, that ONLY logged the data. I can't believe this does not exist!

If you want to log NMEA on the PC, NMEA Monitor can write out log files:
    http://homepage2.nifty.com/k8/gps/

Franson GPS Gate also allows logging (and sharing of the GPS to multiple virtual com ports).

If you want to log NMEA at a hardware level (in the GPS), check out the GPS loggers from Semsons.com or BuyGpsNow.com. I just picked up the i.Trek Z1 GPS bluetooth logger with solar.

The nice thing about the i.Trek Z1 (and most other MTK chipset GPS) is that it allows USB serial connectivity and can be set to output NMEA @ 1hz, 2hz, or 5hz. It can't log any faster than 1hz, but GPS Gate and NMEA Monitor can. A great device for $70.

You might also want to follow the GPSPassion.com forums for GPS Data Loggers.

Thanks TechFire. I also managed to convince CUriosity to add Data Logging to his most excelent Xport3 port splitter.

    Is it for real???????
I remember I mention about adding data logging to Xport3 a while ago but he insisted me to use Compass instead .

Edit: just check his site. V1.13 of Xport3 has NMEA data logging.
