don't hijack someone else's thread....
Sorry to hijack your thread Tristan, but what's required to get GPS on a CarPC in Australia? I've been researching for HOURS now and I can't get a STRAIGHT answer on what software will work (with Road Runner). I don't want to spend money on maps and software only to find out it doesn't work and then be stuck with something I don't want.
Can you give me some advice, I really don't know where to start and it's pretty frustrating, it seems no one's ever written something which says "this is the deal..." and then actually explains it! I've even called some 'GPS specialty stores' here and they seem to be absolutely clueless if not dealing with a hand held device.
Ben
Here is how I did it in New Zealand:
-Install Garmin Mapsource (can be found for free on the web if you search)
-Install Garmin nSource (Allows Garmin maps to be used with a laptop etc)
-Install Franson GPSGate or similar (allows garmin products to interface with a USB GPS device)
Install any Garmin compatible maps, there should be plenty for Australia.
In New Zealand there is a group that have developed free auto-routing maps for the whole country, I'm sure there must be something similar in Aussie.
