Hi
Am looking for a program to track my car. I have a small computer with Windows XP and a GPS receiver attached to my computer + Internet in my car. What I want is to get my computer in my car to send me the locating of my car every minute or something, to my computer at home so I can see the location of my car at any time.
Hopefully a free software
Thanks in advance

Very interesting!
What if I don't have an Internet connection in the car?
I just wanted to upload my data at the end of the day and see where I've been on Google Maps. I've already tried w3btracker but the site seems to be down.
Thanks
So log your route every so many seconds and upload it when you get home.
There's lots of GPS logging software available. Hell, you're just logging data from a COM port. Any terminal software can do that.
You wanted a solution. I suggested a solution.
It's a service. Services are rarely free. Beisdes, the only cost associated with GPSGate is a one-time fee for the software itself. It's a fine piece of software nd isn't all that expensive.
WhereisMyGPS was free, but the developer (a member here) gave up on the project. It is no longer available.
You want something free? Get to coding...
I have been looking for something like this too. Simple, and NOT requiring a server. Basically what I would want is:
1) Software that logs NMEA data continually to a file
2) Waits for internet connection, and uploads the data file via FTP or similar, to a predefined address.
3) Rinse, wash, repeat...
What is it with all the software solutions out there requiring a web server account, and have the user share it's location with the world?! (potentially).

To the OP, W3bMa5t3r (Steve) has a free solution called W3bTracker http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/gps/...-tracking.html
Ive used it and it works great, you can make it public so others can track you or keep it private so only you have access. However, you have to request a pin from Steve and he hasn't been active on here for awhile so he may or may not respond to the pin requests.
*Edit: I just noticed that SUVputer said the site was down...hmm. I was just on it a couple of days ago and it was up. I'll check and see if i can still get on.
**Edit: just logged in and the site seems to be working fine. My gps isn't connected so I wasn't tracking but the site is up and running.
GooPs comes in a free version that will upload your current position and track history to an ftp server periodically. The data can be viewed with google earth or google maps.
There are many free ftp hosting sites out there that will work or you can use your own ftp server.
According to my tests with this program, it stops logging data to FTP if you dont have a connection. Can anyone confirm this?
What I mean is this: As long as you have a connection, it uploads data. Then when you lose connection, it stops uploading data (of course). But when you get wifi back, instead of uploading the data INCLUDING all the data you captured while you lost the connection, it simply resumes logging data from that point forward.
I would have thought it continued to cache data locally in preparation for the next successful wifi connection, and then upload everything. Seems that the way it works now, it will leave huge data gaps every time there is a wifi loss....
I hope I am wrong!

I'm ptting together a simple version to build into Access Control and FreeDrive, but will also do a standalone client.
At first the tracking will be on my site (for which you will need to set a username and pasword) but I will release the source code so you can have the tracking on your own site, so that if I disappear you can still track)
at the moment there is just a simple demo screen
