I'm guessing my dual core Atom 330 doesn't have CPU muscle to handle this app properly???

I get a mixed feeling with IGO8 when comparing it to iGuidance 2009. IGO8 is prettier and has some cool new features but the map data is very old for Canada. Street addresses can be off quite a bit (approx 20 houses), one highway I drive has existed over 5 years but doesn't exist on the map.

To support this software company somehow, I ordered a GPS device equipped with IGO8 from ebay.
are you using it with xport or straight to the gps port?

Wow, is it for sale already? I'm using the demo and starting to like it. It does use a lot of CPU though. Well, for me it's the Intel graphics that kills it and this is a 2.4GHz P4. So bring up task manager and check the performance. They have some kind of prediction between position updates so it's constantly drawing to make it look smooth.

Yes I'm using xport. Going direct makes it work better?

Curiosity: I purchased the GPS PDA version (not the PC version) of IGO8. The PC IGO8 version is not available for purchase.

I'm running iGO on a netbook equipped with an Atom 270 with 1Gb of ram and that combination handles CF, playing mp3's and iGO very well !

Thanks for the feedback. I'll experiment with a newer version of Xport, or remove xport completely, or turn off "hyperthreading" and see what effects there are.

The PDA maps work, although some of the newer map versions need to be patched.

I am running iGO on a intel Atom with 1gb RAM and it works really smooth.

For what it's worth GPS is not 100% accurate all the time, if you don't have a good gps fix the movement is not going to be accurate. Many things can effect this, such as weather, receiver position, where the satellites are in the horizon, building, ect. It's just the nature of the beast. I don't see anything wrong with iGO and it's GPS positioning, it's all in the GPS data you are feeding it.

Just a FYI, iGO runs remarkably well under wine on my FreeBSD server. It actually launches faster than it does on windows! gpsd works good to so this looks like a good solution for running GPS on the 'nix platform.
