My old Deluo USB adaptor is dead. Need suggestions.

I have a Deluo GPS mouse which is about 4 years old. When I use the PS2/Serial adaptor the GPS works fine. When I use the USB adaptor that came with it, the GPS is not detected. I think the adaptor itself is fried since when I plug it in the computer doesn't detect any new devices. I tried it on multiple PCs.

The USB adaptor has a plastic bubble in the middle of the cable, and there is a little circuit board inside. The adaptor that Deluo sells now does not have this small circuit board... at least the picture on their store does not have it. It's just a straight PS2 to USB cable, so it's probably not compatible. So I'm not sure what to do.

The Serial port is not an option for me.

I'll replace the GPS mouse if I have to, but I'd rather avoid that if there is a simple fix. Suggestions?

must be the serial to usb adapter.
The one from Deluo might have the circuit inside one of the plug.

I'd rather get a new $40 sirfstar III gps like bu-353 rather than buying an adapter for 4 year old gps.
