Ive seen a few people with it mounted outside. I have mine mounted on the inside near a window though. I am to scared that the weather will eventually kill the unit.
I just ordered a BU-353 to replace my BU-333 (or whatever the older model was), and am considering mounting it on the backside of my trunk (where it meets the rear window).
Has anyone mounted one in a similar location or somewhere else on the outside of the vehicle? This one is supposed to be weatherproof, but living in Colorado, it would need to survive freezes, hail, freezing rain, etc.

...no need to be scared. If the weather (or something else) kills the unit, you will just unplug it, and plug in a new one. I'm sure it will last you at least a couple of years, and it will survive rain/snow/hot/cold.
It is a good idea to keep a spare unit in the car, just in case. BU-353 costs only about $35 today.
Had mine mounted on the top of my 4runner for over a year now.. still running strong. =)
Sits just behind the rack.
