well the photos have to have a minimum of quality or else they cant be used as proof... but i guess a pic of 500 kb is enough for most situations

managed to send my first picture today. I have an issue that it can only be a max of 64kb at the moment but still working on it.
Just a question to all the people using this. Whats the maximun screen size I could use. I have to add a picture box now and things are getting crowded on that screen. May have to start putting things in seperate screens soon.
what about a small area that shows the last 10 pictures in a list form of some kind where you of course can select one of the last 10 pictures and a option in that list to selct more pictures that open a new window with all pictures?
Version 3 released - get it in the first post.
Quite nervous about this one as its a big change. Tried to do lots of testing but sure bugs have got through.
Also I hope everyone understands what we're trying to achieve with the new mapping feature. If you have any questions please ask.
Lambo,
I have a question about this program in general.
1) Does it allow for resetting the clients clock to the GPS time?
2) Can I use to program to log NMEA data from a 5Hz GPS to a file on the machine actually attached to GPS?
I am looking to log data directly on the car computer. I do not want a home server I want to log directly to the car machine and will periodically get data off it. I do not have a cell phone/data connection so cannot log to another server and honestly that is not the goal of what I am trying to do in any case.
I appreciate your time in answering my questions. (Bugbyte suggested I check this out when he heard what I wanted to do).
edit: BTW that crowd sourced mapping thing is awesome. If this works for me I will make sure and attempt to upload the data as well if I can.
a1) It has the abiltiy but I switched it off. Its already part of RR and other people reported peoblems using it. I could switch it back on if you're interested.
2)All tracking data is stored on the carputer until it manages to upload to a server. All the data is stored in a sqlite database. You could extract the data from there if you didn't want to set up the server side stuff.
You would have to fake the ini files server details but if you interested I can give details.
Lastly its good to hear about the crowd source stuff. I haven't had any feedback yet on how its working for people so if you want to use it I'm ready to help in anyway possible.
Lambo,
Thanks for the input. I was not planning on running RR on the client machine (GPS time did not work on my carputer in my personal vehicle with RR either).
This case is more for data acquisition than for carputer coolness. Having a consistent clock is necessary so I can record OBDII data as well at the same time and analyze them together. If the clock is not set to the GPS time then the OBD data would be out of synch significantly unless of course I was smart enough to use xport and then time stamp the OBD data with the GPS time as well. I don't have any idea how to do it though.
The 5Hz rate will not mess up your software? I did not know if it was set to only update at 1Hz. I would appreciate some info on faking the ini files server details so I can keep the data around. It is possible that I can get a wireless card installed and sync the data to a server once in awhile as well. Could I do that and still keep a record on the carputer/client as well? I will test the parking location later (it is in a concrete garage) and if wireless works maybe I can just set up a server myself the way the program was intended to be used. I will still need to synch the clock and manually get OBDII data though.
I need to resolder the RS232 port b/c I made the exposed wires to long and think they have the potential to short, but then I can install your program and see how it works.
On an unrelated note: What do you know about the crowdsourced data? When I looked at the website it looks like the map is already extremely complete. If they actually showed the data they have it might help people know where more data is needed.
If your willing to test I could add this for you.
It should make no odds. The client updates tracking data at a user definied interval that depends on whether its in the alert mode (every 2 secs), connected to the server or not connected.
The mapping data is collected every 100 metres.
According to stuff thats been posted about openstreet they dont give out the data. They keep it to themselves although the maps they generate from it are free. Our project is to add to this data but keep the original data ourselves so we still have access to it.
Flippinek.. I got away for a few months and when I get back yr on Version
Three already! Nice work!
I still have the original in the car. I shall have a download of V3 and see whats
what.
