You dont set a geofence. The whole point of a geofence is to stop the car being moved out of it. I have been thinking about adding a time component to the geofence so it only works from say 7pm to 7am (when your not at work say). I could also add a ignore geofence but it opens up more possabilities of being disarmed by some one in the car.
I have been toying with the idea of having my phone as the alarm key so if my phones in th car the alarm is disabled. It would be an addin to my mobilephone plugin.
That was the whole reason why I created my mobilephone plugin. I wanted to use it for internet. It is possible to do this with it currently using the dun or pan settings but only to connect to the internet. Because BS haven't released their sdk with sms and contacts (their hoping i will pay them cash) you still can't send an sms without skype though.
In the end i just got a usb internet dongle.
If they have disarmed it they for sure have found the pc and could power off the pc and then the alarm will be gone anyway
i dont think it could harm much to add a /ignore switch or something like it
but i can see an alternative:
no geofence and then use access control to decide whatever to throw an alarm or not

So here's how to install skype as a service.
http://forum.skype.com/topic/55325-m...ystem-service/
just follow the bit about adding skype as a service.
Two things.
The GPSTracker service needs to be allowed to interact with the desktop.
Make sure you allow gpstracker to access skype. I spent ages tryig to find out why it wasn't working only to find skype had not allowed access.
Really you should have a special skype user just for this as you shouldn't use your normal user.
Make sure you have skype credits to send an sms.
Otherwise all the code is there for a geofence problem.
As for the client alert you need to set the reg entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\GPSTracker\alert with a value of true. This key is read on client start up or on hibernate/standby resume.
this is a very rough and ready post for people o try. I will be working on the installer to try to do this automatically but it will take time.
anyfeed back from anyone. Good or bad I dont mind
I had this working for a while but it was a pain in the *** to keep my dekstop running so I disabled it. Any possibility of a Linux version? I have a Linux server that's on 24/7
i had it running also even thou only testing at fixed pos at home....
also here the thing are that me and my girlfriend have talked about saving power (=money) and we shut all pc's when we go to bed... sadly this leaves us with no pc's to use as server
so still miss the option to use a "public" server ie rented one, they are so cheap these days
only thing left is a way to send an sms skype can be used for that but they charge a bit more than my cell phone provider charges... next thing would be to see if it's possible to use hardware to send the sms.
But tracking alone would be nice provided that the client could be set to use a public server, public in the way that you can track from any pc with the right password

a small ps... our UPS (used to keep our pc's safe during lightning) goes from about 60% load to 1-2% when we shut our main pc. and our tv are also connected to the ups, only thing not are kitchen stuff like fridge and dishwasher. so we save arround 0,4 kwh and over a year that a lot, it will bring us to the movies at least a few times and even a nice dinner out once in a while
so if the client could just have the option to use the server space i allready have as a complete package for my mailserver i would do the trick for me, pictures not a problem since i have at least 3 GB of space, of course a setting to limit the amount of data the pics take is needed, once that limit is reached delete the oldest one to make room for a new one

still looking at this, to be perfect for me i miss these features:
1. an ignore switch, i would have geofence on all the time and when RR start i would have a button somewhere at some screen that tells the server not to throw an alarm. maybe use access control to do that. point is that if there is time limit on the geofence no alarm is thrown if the car gets stolen. and if people gets a day off and forget to change the times it would be a bigger problem than geofence on all the time and the ignore switch.
2. option to use a public server, for myself i dont run pc's when i dont use them so my only option is to use the server space i got for my private domain. f this get implemented it should be able to limit the space taken up by photos in some way
but option 1 is the most important
