Don't sweat the internet connection requirement too much. It's becoming more and more common. Aim for the near future rather than today.

It may be. I haven't gone through and nit-picked the design yet, just wanted to get a overall look working.

Thanks for the encouragement. I agree with both sides. Only after I have a fully working version of the google maps version will I start work on an OSM version. That being said, I will also re-evaluate the state of the community when that time comes to determine if it is still a good course of action, or if I want to devote efforts towards the original.

if you lose your internet and still need gps, just open up streets and trips. otherwise, internet enabled gps is MUCH better then standalone imo.

edit- ok i installed it on my desktop. easy to install. ill try it out in the car later, to see if i can get the gps to work. if it does, it looks like this is a winner. the directory search seems thorough, and the map is very easy to read.

its basically looks like a dumbed-down version of bing mobile search, which is awesome.

This (Goggle Map Buddy) does look cool

I grabbed a few versions that I could find, but never did get it to work.

It runs, connects, asks for an area, click Create Map and it just sits there. Even defined a small area (so its not doing a big chunck, nope, justs sits there).

Oh well, Ill keep an eye on it. Did you ever get it to work Rescuer?

Edit : update, my own fault it wasnt working, my virus scanner had real time prot on and was inserting a proxy between me and the world. Worked fine with it off.
PDP1170/TRS80/Atari800XL/Amiga500/286/486/P2/P4/C2D/i7 still a newb (but an old newb, been doing this a while) working my way up to "Complete Newb"

Great app, working good. Can it be made to display in KMS instead of miles?
will be great if you can add buddy tracking as in google lattitude.

    Thanks.

I am currently in the process of moving from Illinois to Virginia, so the project is on hold while I house-hunt, pack, move, unpack, etc. However, the app is still a priority for me, and by no means a dead project, just on hold for a short while.
