Xport not working with NG Topo!

I have the National Geographic Topo! State Series (4.5.0). I have a US GlobalSat BU-353. I can get the two to work fine together on and com port I have tried. However, if I add Xport (1.36, 1.37 or 1.38) into the mix it quit working and tells me there is no signal from the GPS.

All other applications I have tried with success, (iGuiadance 4, MS Streets and Trips, Centrafuse (though I get a random BSOF with CentraFuse), plus other small GPS like NetStumbler, etc).

I have tried all different comports, both for the GPS it's self and for the virtual com ports for TOPO!. Nothing I have tried worked.

Like I said, if I do not use Xport, TOPO! works fine, so it has something to do with Topo! reading the data that Xport is sending out.

Anyone have any ideas?

BTW, this is on a windows XP Pro (SP3) system and I have the newest drivers from GlobalSat (and I tried the newest drives straight from Prolific).

Xport support has lacked and it doesnt work at all for me and many others.

it works perfectly for me. this program changes whatever your gps port is to port 7, and this virtual port 7 can be used by as many programs as you want at the same time. just set everything to port 7 and it works. the program is spanish, but its not hard to figure out.

Heck, it's hard to keep up with all these nav apps. I'm sure I can add support for it at some point though. :)

TOPO! is not nav software in the sense that most people use it, however, it does have the ability to track. I did a rather extensive Google search looking for the fix to my problem, the issue is that National Geographic also sells a program called Xport Pro. I did find some folks who are using TOPO! with Xport with good results, however, they are older posts. I thought maybe there was something in one of the newer versions that caused a problem, but that older versions might have worked fine.

I noticed that too. It's hard to find anything about TOPO! and XPort. I haven't had much luck in testing either. I tried TOPO! Explorer but it can't find my USB or bluetooth GPS or XPort so I haven't been able to do anything yet.

curiosity- xport seems to be broken with many programs... at least with vista/win7 that is. i went though days of frustrating testing and tweaking trying to get Xport to work reliably, and i concluded its just not possible the way things are.

have you looked at gpsplex at all to see how that works? i like xport because, of course, its english... but gpsplex is rock-solid stable and i have yet to have a problem with it. my gps works 100% of the time now, no matter what. im wondering if you can adapt xport to work in a similar manar to gpsplex, where it takes the gps port and splits it to just one port- 7. but this new port 7 can be used by as many devices as you want. i have no idea if that helps the stability or not, but it does work extremely well.

I haven't looked at gpsplex but will. I don't have an antivirus in the car so at least I can install it there. The latest xport allows multiple apps on 1 port, so it can do the same thing by creating only 1 virtual port. I don't have vista or 7 so it's getting harder to test or I can't get the programs or they work for me and others but not the one complaining. It should just work for everyone with every program because I'm following all the microsoft guidelines for a COM port, but everyone program uses it differently, and there are at least 2 now that logically shouldn't work. But at least there are alternatives to take up the slack. :)

well im assuming gpsplex does the job in a wider accepted way then, it seems that it works universally across any app... but im not a programmer i really dont know.

So you also have a bluetooth gps, I suppose for testing? Does it work good? What's the brand and model if you don't mind?

It's a BT-359 and works great, but these are getting old. They can be had cheap, but of I were to get something now I'd go with something that uses the MTK chipset.
