    Upgrade CarPC or iPhone GPS?

I have been looking at updating either the GPS software on my CarPC or my iPhone. My CarPC has iGuidance 3.0 and my iPhone only has the default Google Maps thing.

Do you guys recommend I upgrade the CarPC to iGuidance 2009 (or some other GPS app) or that I install a real turn-by-turn GPS app on my iPhone instead?

To keep things in perspective, I drive 2 cars, and the CarPC is only in one. This means I could use the iPhone in either vehicle. One of my relatives also has a TomTom so I usually use that if I need GPS in the other car. I also find using the CarPC with a bigger screen and being hooked up to the speakers to quiet the music when the GPS talks is very useful.

If I upgrade the CarPC, I should say that I use RoadRunner with the DigitalFX skin, so it must be easy to integrate with that.

    iGuidance 2009: $100

    TomTom $60
    MobileNavigator $70
    Magellan Roadmate: $80
    iGo My Way 2009: $55
    nDrive $32
    CoPilot $35

Also, I don't want anything that has a monthly fee. I'd rather just pay for it once and be done with it.

Total amount spent so far: $1196.64

You will probably spend AT LEAST 2x what you initially budget for your CarPC Project!

A free and dual solution is the jailbreak the iPhone using BlackRa1n, then install xGPS. Turn by turn, voice, free. Then upgrade the car PC also.

If you don't want to do that, nothing really beats the larger screen size of the car PC. I use my iPhone for primary nav and it works just fine but integrated with a car PC, it's better.

The GPS on the iPhone is kind of weak and not as accurate as even a cheapo for the car. It works fine, but it works better on the PC.

Bottom line - if you don't actually need nav on the iPhone, stick with upgrading the car PC.

also consider Garmin Mobile for the PC. I just switched to that and it integrates well with RR plus its only $60
